Cold and lightning are elements too, if you use a different use of the word. Such as "I went inside to get out of the elements".

Exactly. But chaos doesn't care about your rules, man!
If I have two fish, and you have three fish, how many fish do we have?
None. These are MY fish.
Clarissa is the 5th element.

Wrong, Leeloo is the Fifth Element.
It's meant to be hard to itemize for, fits the whole CHAOS theme.
There used to be no such thing as chaos resist. There was a crappy unique helm that had a little bit of chaos res but it didn't spawn on rares or anything.

They really should just go all the way with it and make all res apply to chaos since they've pretty much stripped it of any thematic uniqueness.

POE Chaos = D2 Magic Damage

More like Poison resistance.

Chaos is not really an element, but more of a sub-element to Darkness. Honestly, I do not know why chaos is associated with poison, when poison is associated with water, earth, and a bit of darkness. Technically, poison is an element like fire, cold, and lightning. I think GGG is just trying to be clever with making an element just for the sake of element. Also, cold is not element, it is technically a sub-element to water and wind. But the idea of cold element has been used for a long time in games, so I will let it slide. Of course, the idea of saying cold is better than saying ice. Again, if I feel cold, that does not mean there is ice. I am just being a bit picky.

Still, I feel the chaos element in PoE is not chaotic enough. Make it darker, more erratic.
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.
