When diablo 3 RoS comes out, PoE will die and the future will repeat itself

ROS Looks great, will play that one for sure :^)

if steam values are anything to go by PoE probably has more active players than D3 at this point.

blizz did more or less admit (with the gold duping/AH hacking) that only a tiny fraction of the 6 million buyers are still playing the game. Logging on and finding there is a total of 150 (!) people across all inferno acts in public games kinda supports that too.

also blizzard are removing trading entirely in RS effectively.
- no more AH
- exponentially better drops tailored to class
- account bound crafting.

Combine that with the absolute lack of almost anything resembling multiplayer activities (at least D2 had leveling/trade games) and its going to be a very solitary playtime.

I don't know from where does people get the idea that Blizzard really wants to keep D3 active as an online MMO. It's so naive, and more naive it's to ask for it (what a lot of original D3 buyers asked for).

EVERYTHING about the development on D3 and it's 'evolution' can be understood from a financial point of view. Hey, even some GGG design decisions can be tracked to that (how to keep people active). Both games are completely different in that regard.

D3 was very successful from a corporate point of view and RoS is looking to repeat that success. For that they have to apparently fix some of the issues of the game for the target playerbase (casual MMO players, mostly; not that much RPG enthusiasts) which made the game terrible in their view: loot balanced around trading and AH (and RMAH), lack of things to do after beating the game, etc. Most fixes are superficial and don't change the core design because D3 is an ACTION game, with very few RPG elements (that's why it was an excellent decision to release it for consoles).

However after a few weeks (game will die even faster for most people, as you will be able to get better gear way faster, if it's close to the console version) people will feel how pointless the game is (mindless grinding of paragon points for mindless stacking of X stat). that's cause there is no character building in D3, and itemization even if somewhat better (more unique legendaries, build-enabling, copying D3/PoE), still will be very weak at the core due to inherent problems with the lack of RPG elements. It will give much more average gaming time than your typical AAA title nowadays though, and won't leave as a bad taste as vanilla D3 release.

Initially Blizzard idea was that the RMAH will generate enough income to operate the game, cover expenditures and an active developer team doing maintenance, as well as generate some residual income. Because this didn't happen they changed their business model completely, Blizzard has no "money over time" returns now, and they are NOT interested in keep a big population active over time as a subscription based MMO. However, they can introduce upgrades and a few expansions (which they will charge for, btw) with a few new features, as well as power creep (soft resets) to make the casual target player-base come back to the game periodically and generate a good income from expansion sales, and additionally pay for the diminishing operating costs and dedicated teams.

The contrary happens in PoE cause their business model depends on continuous sales and customer attachment to the product. They NEED (for survival) to keep the interest of the player over time, so people keeps buying MT credits, and develop some attachment to the game (and their characters). The incentives are different.

I'm not saying this game or that is better, in fact many GGG decisions are very questionable (specially gating content is one of the worst decisions I have ever seen in any game over pretty much arbitrary or irrelevant game design arguments, that piss more people off than anything else). But both games operate under different business paradigms and cannot be compared AT ALL. If you enjoy both, better for you (in fact I'll be buying RoS with free money I got from the RMAH selling crap, and will be enjoying it in a different way than PoE). As for people antagonizing both games, no they are not meant to be similar or targeting the same players.
I will be playing RoS, the adventure mode and other stuff looks really fun but, you know, I don't think Blizzard removed the AH/RMAH out of generosity, most likeky they didn't want self competition about money with their upcoming card game, Hearthsone.

I started to Nod after 3 minutes of watching. The only inprovement I saw to the expansion was the crafting and the abilty to reforge your gear was pretty sick too. But after that it's the same shit different day.
If it were free I would look at it. Too much is wrong at the core for me to go back, much less pay entertainment dollars that are better used here.

I gave D3 every chance, despite reservations U had before buying because it was Diablo. Gotta know when to quit and walk away.
Analyze, Adapt, and Ask the devs to change it.

Yeah. I think I'll play RoS as well so I can toy around with the 3 possible builds as opposed to the plethora of builds available in PoE.
hi ezra
The tears will flow. 2014. Mark my words.
Hahaha..... dont be ridiculous d3 fanboy, this is completely IMPOSSIBLE ! even they destroy the AH, added the so called paragon level, or add some minor stat customization, but its graphic, gameplay, story, skill system, character customization, still like a bunch of CRAP compare to PoE.

Would you still use Nokia 3310 after you have Iphone 5S? Think about it. Well i think now only you can do is lie on your bed and dream about it. Have a good dream ~~~~~~^^
Its not the question which one is better...

Ill bet RoS will be a good game too and i will definatly buy and try it.. But our minds are free and ill play both games.... Jeah its possible ;)
