Is Scion like the main char or something?
" Templer is clearly a religious so he could bang kids, true Why you should try Harcore http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/209310/page/1

I think the real reason is that the Scion voice actor is the most recent to be invited into the recording studio - by the time they did so, the devs could give her a lot of lines to read as they'd already fleshed out most of the lore. Eventually they'll call the other actors back and get them to record more lines, so all the classes are as talkative as the Scion. You can tell that Piety's lines aren't finished for instance, because the Scion's responses to her don't match up. Presumably Piety and other key NPCs will eventually have lines that are personalised to each class (like how Gravicius's taunt is personalised).

" disagree. I think she was the first one in the studio which is why her lines are sort of confusing. at the time when they recorded her they were still fleshing out the details so they had her to say the most vague sounding things that emcompassed where they thought they might eventually be going the reason she has more personalized dialogue between all of wraeclast is becuase she was alsways intended to be the "main character" of the story If this was power rangers she would totally be Tommy, the White Ranger. (yeah haven't followed powerrangers in a while sorry guys) |

I found it rather easy to follow the Scion's story. Of course I actually paid attention to all the snippets given to us and tried to put them into context. Here is what I've figured out.
The Scion is a daughter of a noble family living in Theopolis (Theopolis confirmed by what she says upon entering the mud flats). She has a talent for learning that extends to all forms of study. Because of this her overbearing parents kept her cloistered with strict and near constant training regimen (character select dialogue, library entry, entering depths with crab side mission, etc). Throughout her life she experienced constant nightmares showing her terrible things (numerous references). Eventually her parents married her off with a significant payment due to her being well educated. It can be deduced that the custom in Theopolis is for the prospective husband to pay the family of the daughter on marriage. (There is a quote where she says her parents trained her to be sold off) On the wedding night the Scion's husband does something that offends her so greatly she feels justified in slaying him. This leads to her exile. (character select dialogue, letters of exile comment) Once exiled the Scion starts encountering places and creatures that she had seen before in the previously mentioned nightmares. It is very clear that her nightmares back in Theopolis were not just dreams. (the most telling for this is the necromancer in the side mission off the mud flats) As she explores Wraeclast she encounters powerful creatures that have a strong connection to the land. As she slays them she feels what they feel, more and more powerfully the more it happens. Eventually the Scion decides that she was always meant to come to Wraeclast. That she has a connection to the land and starts to accept it calling herself a Daughter of Wraeclast. (totem on ledge, crab in depths, and more) I honestly can't wait for the next act. We are probably going to find out the nature of the "shadow" mentioned in the histories and the root of all the strange things that happen on Wraeclast. I am sure that much more will be revealed about the nature of the Scion's bond with Wraeclast as well. Oh and one last note. The Scion responds to the Karui stone markers in act 1. Those are a relatively new addition to the game so her voice recordings had to have been made sometime after they were added. Last edited by HecatesLover#3908 on Nov 19, 2013, 6:26:02 PM

New lines for Shadow should be a priority, his quirky lines gave me a good laugh. "Did the earth move for you baby? Probably, you hit the ground quite hard."
I really hate the Scion's lines, I used to main a Witch and hearing her lines just made me feel like I'm losing brain cells because...well she just says everything in a childish way (e.g. "You wanted me burned back in Oriath, that wasn't very nice.") but at least it's consistent with her evil child personality. Scion is much much worse, stupid angsty inconsistent blonde bimbo. " Good summary. I find that there are two sides of the Scion, one of which I like. The side I DO like is the side that is the talented, rich brat with a cruel streak whom resents her parents and yearns for freedom--- whichever direction that freedom may take her. If she could have stuck to just that persona, I would have liked her character a lot. However, the side I DON'T like is the side which gets erratically emotional, ambiguously poetic, and weepy. Now, that's not to say that the second part couldn't make for an interesting character in and of itself. That could have made for an interesting, non-cliche male character who felt oppressively out of place and lost in the surroundings of Wraeclast. But it seems like GGG tried to cram two entirely different characters into one and it just doesn't work. In fact, its downright irritating to hear her swing from snarky remarks about her parents and her liberating independence (which I thought were great) to hysterical outbursts that make her sound like she's falling to pieces. |

" Duality is an interesting character trait imo. I always loved to see very different sides to an individual, especially one like this. The different aspects do make some sense - She's confident, poised and determined, snarky when needed, because she needs to be just to survive here; however, there's a side of her that's frickin' terrified of everything, almost childish from her repression as a result of strict parental upbringing and sheltering. That being said, I did laugh a *lot* at some of the more... ahem. 'Darkly poetic' things she's spouted. I can't play with the speakers on with her because her constant chatter drives my boyfriend up the damned wall and just makes me shake my head and sigh [and giggle. A lot]. I like what they did with the Karui stones and a few comments, like with the library. Those added to lore and didn't feel like she was just talking to hear her own voice. I have to wonder if the constant chatter and praise about herself isn't a part of her character, however. She's said it plainly; she believes she is special. Her constant talking is just a mutter to herself, affirming her own 'uniqueness' and 'omg I'm so stronk' while serving to annoy the piss out of the player. Normally I would not attribute such subtlety to a character and how they're portrayed in a game, but this game's really impressed me. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. |

i came up with my own background for her. based on some knowledge i have of the actual game.
she was to be wed to Dominus though an arranged marriage. but she found out his evil ways and tried to kill him. she was banished to Wraeclast since the death sentence isnt applied to the Scion way. As an exile, she bands together with other exiled warriors and travel across Wraeclast to end Dominus' hold. During their travel across the plains, she encounters corrupted beings and slays them, only to find they are people from her past. As she slays Dominus, she realizes the truth - She killed her fiance, her family and her friends. The universe that she created protected the truth from her in her last moments as she waited to be put to death. her last words before her death were "Between man and nightmare, that is where I've always stood. |
