Allowing people to spend money to respec makes things pay-to-win; younger players and players with financial commitments are at a disadvantage to more wealthy players. It also goes against the idea that your choices are (mostly) permanent -- if you can just drop $5 and get a respec, then your choices no longer matter since they can be changed whenever you want.
If you don't enjoy playing through content again and consider it highly repetitive, it sounds like ARPGs aren't the genre for you. A big part of the game is replaying through what you've done before, either using a new playstyle or trying to optimize what you had before to do it better.
I don't know what games you have played, but most you even get different starting areas for different race/classes. Different zones that can be played or not. There are respec options. Variations on the story based on class that make it desirable to play several different classes to see the differences...etc.. etc.. etc..
But this is a linear game and i realize that is how it was intended, and is not my complaint... All I am saying is there should be an option to respec so I dont have to start over at the beginning of the line (line that repeats itself three times) just to try a different version of my character... with the possible chance that i wont like that version either and have to do it again. |

not having respecs readily available is one of the core aspects of this game. the game is basically designed for people who LIKES to blast through the same content with different builds. this becomes even more apparent from a hardcore perspective, where the no respec design makes every playthrough different from another. the journey is more important than the destination, taking that character safely to your end game build is what the game is really about.
by removing this aspect you will effectively reduce the livespan of this game a lot. the target audience, who likes rolling new characters would feel that its useless to roll new characters, because they can simply respec one of their old. this was very obvious in d2, when they in 1.13 introduced respecs. i used to get really juiced about making new characters to try fucked up builds. but after this patch it simply felt meaningless, and i played less and less.
If you consider repetetive contents as that bad and you've already beaten the game on normal: Sorry, this game has nothing more to offer you. Respecc won't change that.

well, reading the last few posts i think nailed it for me, this is just not my genre. A shame though cause it was fun the first couple of times through... I just dont much enjoy it when i have done it enough to know it by heart, like reading a book twice, I cant do it.
Enjoy your game, i aint so selfish to try and ruin it for yall based on my opinion (not that GGG would listen to me anyway... just the principle). Later :D Maybe I will get to merciless with my friend, Minion master is getting tedious though.. idk if i will make it QQ Hopefully i dont double post this time... |

A skilled player will solo through Normal in one evening. Not a big deal. If your friend is playing too, then just reroll your char and have your friend boost you through. You will catch up to the first character within no time.
Or you could man up, play hardcore, die, then reroll. |

" LOL... funny post. You do realize this is a video game... Man up? sounds kinda like... "well, well, I have a lvl 70 paladin that would kick your *** you big bully" One evening for a "skilled player" = 4-5 days for normal people. But like i said before, I am done here... the "man up" comment about a video game just made me lol. |
