Bots

If you read the entire thread that is linked there, From April to November - people go from wanting to make farming bots for PoE their full time job to deciding it is probably to unreliable to keep a bot alive due to the changes that have been made in the game. Granted they could not be telling the truth but i doubt it. So while i am sure some dedicated cheaters will look to make bots after Open Beta hits PoE has done an amazing job detering bots already.

My beloved pets....
Annual / Seasonal wipes = much less people willing to fork out money to buy in-game items.

But I guess many would not like such a drastic measure. If it really gets pretty bad, I see the community possibly fragmenting into inhouse leagues.

TBH im surprised this wasnt already planned? D2 Ladder anyone. Why wouldnt GGG force a yearly wipe to the server and refresh the economy. Im all for it.
GGG - Why you no?

I'm pretty sure these sort of shorter term seasonal leagues are necessary. I never doubted that the initial permanent default and hardcore leagues would become sort of obsolete and legacy after a while.
Problem with constant resets is that players like myself, don't like 'resets'. Yes, I can see it being a good options for those who want ladders, but once that ladder season is over, then legacy should remain untouched and non-wiped. I'd hate to play for a long time, leave for 6 months then come back to see all my characters/gear have been deleted.

True - but as i recall in D2, this is exactly what happened. You didnt loose all your chars, they simply got migrated off the ladder.

It would be awesome if they implemented the ladder wipes in both SC/HC later on. You don't lose anything, specifically all that happens is your character is moved to a non-ladder league.
Still alive.. are we?

I view SC/HC as a form of 'non-ladder league' as you call it, but of course not in the literal sense. Im sure there will be fairly long term ladders as well, I remember a dev asking for feedback on a month long league before too. When those types of leagues end they get filtered to the SC/HC leagues.
I dont really see the point in deleting them when you can just leave them there, essentially having the SC/HC leagues end up becoming equivalent to the place where your characters ended up in d2. I think this format encourages more participation in events because:

1. If it wasnt like this, some people wouldnt want to make characters that are just going to get wiped even if they want to continue their character
2. People will see an extra benefit from running the races because they can use its items after it is over

Its still possible we could have 'seasonal leagues', the SC/HC leagues are just like a different tier, I think GGG coined it the 'parent league' (meaning the league your character goes to after the event is over)
