Bots

Even if you don't have bots you'll still have people who sit behind a computer and farm for items to sell for real cash much like you have in D3. It's probably cheaper to hire someone in a third world country for $0.50 an hour to sit there and click and farm than it is to program bots to bypass security features. Lack of an auction house might help a bit since it would be odd with no currency but you only need like 10 people farming all day, then pooling their goods onto one main account that sells stuff. The only way I see of dealing with these sorts of things are having a diligent mod team to ban goldspammers.

" The population of min/maxing players is going to be much smaller than the population of the players supplying GCP to them. |

Heard about this game a week ago, and there's already a bot problem :P
Still, i can't wait till it hits open beta :) But if someone has a Key to give away feel free to do so ^^ (can't really afford it because of Christmas) |

The only Bot problem at the moment , is GGGs bots boggin down the server :P
GGG - Why you no?

" Hi there. Right now, this is all conjecture. We most definitely do not 'already' have a bot issue. I've no qualms with such speculation but for now, that is what it is. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" Exactly. Orbs are nothing but currency denominations reserved for a specific service and gold is nothing but a more fluid form of orbs. The currency system in this game is just a more restrictive form of gold. It will not stop the same problems that have prevailed in every single other online game with a currency system. |

What if people could vote to kick people of global chat? Obviously Devs could just ban a spambot but theyre not always on.
If say, 20-30 people voted 'ban' on a person on global chat they would be banned pending dev approval. To prevent clan abuse if many of the votes are from a group of friends the vote threshhold would be increased. |

"I really dislike the idea of transaction fees associated with sending messages. I played a game that had this, and it really left a bad taste in my mouth. The only people using chat were bots who spammed the global chat as though the transaction fee didnt even exist. Basically the chat became a useless feature Moderators can currently mute players in game, so Im not sure why you say we cant do that. Of course we are not obligated to play the game at set times, so I dont really see the problem. |

" lol $0.50 an hour. I used to have D2 farmers on $80 a month, and they were massively grateful for it as it's twice as much as they'd be making out in the rice fields and they get to be indoors during the heat of the day. I wouldn't do that here though as I enjoy playing the game too much to be a part of ruining it. Bots will be bots. They will mostly be in the main default league. There will be private leagues run by people intelligent enough to identify and kick whoever they please, which will pretty much solve the issue for people who are overly concerned about it. |

There are a number of clever ways to help deal with potential spam issues. Although spammers can never be completely eliminated, many steps can be taken to minimize their impact.
One thing to note is that this game will be a pain in the ass for the run of the mill farming operations. Most RMT sites will think that the game is more trouble than it's worth. Think about it: -Instead of stocking a single currency (gold), the sites will have to stock multiple currency types -Gameplay is fairly difficult and random; botting will be no easy task, especially on hardcore -While a small indy team might seem like an easy target at first, they also are more likely to move quickly and try new and clever solutions to age old problems To put it simply, if I ran an RMT company, I would rather dump my resources into other games that use the standard formula. |
