I remember bartering in Diablo 2

That's why D2 is the measuring stick by which all other games of the genre are judged. "Currency" type items and large scale trading is what's wrong with D2's successors.

idk, pgems and hrs were pretty much currency in D2

its just that even despite that fact that half the people ingame were scumbag scammers, they were still willing to negotiate and barter insteadn of instantly screaming MOTHERFUCKER LOWBALL IGNORED

That's why I said "currency type items AND large scale trading" is what's wrong. If you have currency items to craft but no way to trade them or if you have trading but no currency type items then everything is fine. When you combine the two, then you can start putting values on items and it's no longer about bartering items for items but it's buying items for currency. That in the long term forces the company to adjust drop rates to prevent the game from being flooded with items and that in turn forces people to engage in buying and selling instead of playing and occasionally bartering.

Diablo II honestly was not all that different; the currency was just ad hoc. Personally I preferred bartering as it was a greater reflection of the subjective value of items limited to the scope of the individuals trading (rather than the rest of the userbase)

So what I gather from this thread, bottom line is we need more botters in POE to make bartering as enjoyable as it was in D2.
Since there are no internal fixed prices on items and most currency then it is left to the community to decide its worth

Now if that is true then that means we must get used to items fluctuating...being overpriced...being underpriced...but always being open to negotiation

There are those rare items that a seller will be unwilling to sell except for a miracle price and well thats an anomaly that falls outside the norm, i.e. Godly and mirror worthy.

I recently had a very rude experience with a seller and made sure to comment on my experience in his thread

If you are going to sell without a b/o price then you should expect some extra haggling.

Ah yes, I remember as a kid I paid 20pgs for an immortal kings helmet, That ripp-off.
Finally, more people who agree that this system is quickly degrading the overall experience of the game. I'm so god damn tired of seeing "offer" and then it turns into a fucking slug fest.

I've actually gotten to the point where I said fuck it and will just farm for what I want. Not really keen on the bull shit mini game that is bartering. Bartering is fine when both users get what that means, not the "I have a price in mind, I dont want to say it though. If you are below it, I'll call you a scumbag for the quote, lowball, unquote and trod off into the sunset spraying shit everywhere."

I don't remember bartering in D2.
What I do remember is 98% of the population being elitist players that relied on broken Pallies to actually play the game and refusing to barter whatsoever because "its gg gear noob its worth way more".

What the hell does "gg gear" even mean?

sounds like you probably never got past level 20 in d2.

gg = good/godly

Really? I've had a great day trading. I'm still a noob at pricing for PoE but I felt like things went well.

>"10?"
>Can you do a bit more please?
>"Yeah, 10 and an an alch?"
>Yeah sounds good. Discounts for everyone today!

>Hi, how much for your Reduced Mana?
>"2 Chaos"
>Can you go any lower please?

>Sounds great!

>Hi, I love your amazing shield, how much are you looking for?
>"10 Chaos"
>Can you go any lower?
>"Yeah, 8 is the lowest I can go though, sorry."
>2 GCP + 2 Chaos or just 8?
>"I have no need for GCP so the Chaos please"
>Sure thing!

I've had a great day. The community has been a lot better than most MMOs I've played, especially with trading.

Yeah I think I lowballed someone (it being my first trade and being afraid of being cheated) and got immediately ignored. Since then I refuse to barter, don't buy from anyone without a price (unless I'm 'desperate') use the b/o price and never sell any of my own stuff. I just don't find bartering fun at all. It's time consuming and boring.
