No really, why exactly is this a problem? You can have characters identified by an ID number instead of their name for database purposes, and you can have people use unique account names for PM's (which is preferable for communication, IMO, since if you can see an account name you can tell that PenisMuncher17342 is one of your friends on an alt instead of a random noob with no creative ability).

So I see someone on trade chat post something I want to buy. I type in their name. There are two people with identical names that are currently online. How does the client decide which account that whisper goes to?

I just want to be able to type in someones account name and be able to whisper them irregardless of their character's name. If someone doesn't make a character that has the same name as their account, or doesn't post their IGN on the forums it is impossible for me to contact them.

It's more fun this way, one of my favorite meta-games in d2 was finding cool names that weren't taken. The only problem with poe having this system is that any character could end up in the same league at a given moment, so names are shared between leagues.

1) create character with popular, known name
2) convince people this is actually you
3) take advantage of gullibility
4) ???
5) profit

They should let us bid on names... for MTX points. Who ever pays the most points, gets the name.

In the end it doesn't really matter what your name is. Nobody cares.

Just like in real life, you cannot have the same name as someone else. Why is it so hard to understand this?

Funny thing happened to me last week, was trying to remake one of my characters in the new league, but for that to happen I had to delete the character from the old league. So I did and immediately tried to recreate it, but the name was already taken?:D

Or I somehow missed that names are unique to leagues and therefore someone could have already created a character with that name on said league.
