"A Character with this name already exists."
" Just as GGG is no P2W, they shouldn't be P2N. GGG could do it like it is in the real world, where other people name your character. When you log in and choose a new character, a "Please name this character" button pops up in Global chat. The first 20 unique names are then added to a poll and everyone online at the time gets a vote. In no time (30 minutes to an hour) your character will have a new name!
Spoiler
That was sarcasm. I enjoy some of the unusual names I see in games. Names that I doubt we would see if there were 12,489 Marauders named Conan.

" I remember thinking of some cool names to use in PoE, but the more obvious ones were of course taken (someone else had the same idea, and took advantage of it sooner). Instead of complaining about it though, I thought of some other cooler names to use. I like PoE's name implementation though personally with the requirement of unique names. Prevents me from doing stuff like... ![]() ... and actually be creative :p (yeah, I named all my D3 characters Espionage) I like the names I have for my characters on PoE :) Path of Exile in Eyefinity: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1320584 Last edited by Espionage724#4312 on Nov 1, 2013, 6:36:12 PM

"I absolutely care if your character is named llllllllllllllllllll, XxBlazeItxX, The_Prince_Of_Poon, or something else similarly offensive to intelligent thought, although I do see your point in the general case. That said, if nobody cares, then why does GGG care SO MUCH about what I name my character that it prevents me from playing my new character until I go through sufficient trail-and-error namings (or perhaps they intend for me to employ thaumaturgical divination) to have a name that meets the minimal requirement of one character difference from every other name in the game? Also, if you're that particular breed of nerd that I am, and want to make the same particular reference I do by naming my Fire Witch "Elizabeth_Ruffleburg," then why is that such a bad thing? Why can't you just compensate for that by doing "/w ^XCodes" (where the carrot or some other random, non-alphanumeric character notes XCodes as an account name instead of a character name) when there are multiple "Elizabeth_Ruffleburg"s online at the same time? |

" Dafuq? I agree that names should be exclusive to a single character, but I have no idea what makes you think that's "just like in real life". |
