Day 7 and counting: Cannot get past character select screen: "failed to connect to instance "

UPDATE: Giving up on this after 7 days - thanks a lot Emjayen for your effort.
I am travelling so am in a different location/country than I usually play from. I try to log-in, get the message that account blocked (as different location) to check email. I check mail, unblock account. once I log in, every char I choose (got two - one in standard, one in domination), after the window with the area name and a tip, It throws me back to log in screen. and I see the "failed to connect to instance" in the bottom left corner. I even tried creating a new char, with same result. I use Wifi in my current location - and have played other games in the past without issues. Guess I wont have any POE for 2-3 weeks if I cant even enter past character list screen :-( I did a search and couldnt find anything (other than dont use WIFI, use LAN cable - which is not an option for me) Last edited by MildlyClever#2548 on Nov 6, 2013, 3:22:31 AM

any help would be appreciated.
My home network router doesnt have fire wall - and I checked the PC firewall, no ports are blocked etc either. |

same problem here, just random, stuck on the load screen when change from zone to zone... kicked out with "failed to connect to the istance"....

In my case - I havent been able to get past character select even once in this location :(

What location are you playing from? Is it a network that is a corporate or university network? Something that has a network administrator? If so, the ports are probably blocked that are required to connect to the instances for Path of Exile.
Can you try using a VPN and see if it makes a difference? You can find instructions for the VPN in the Consolidated Technical sticky post at the top of this forum. |

it is a home network - with netgear router (so PC/laptop/i-pad can be used with wireless broadband).
I checked the router setings, no ports are blocked. I can change settings etc on router too - let me know what to check/change. Thanks a lot. |

Just to add some info:
- I play POE on my laptop. In Thailand - where I work - I play using the hotels network, and have never had issues. - Now I am in India for 3 weeks. In India, using the same laptop, I use my home network (Airtel Broadband is the ISP). I havent been able to get past character select screen. I have searched the threads from the past - and based on the generic, if any, responses there, I suspect I wont get any help on this one. Mainly because it could be some specific setting / non-setting at my end (though I dont think so - as I have checked the router etc). Guess I wont have POE for a few weeks. |
