On the darkness:
In one of the lore books in the library, it is mentioned how a certain general (I forgot who, but his last name starts with P) and his army drove back the darkness from Atziri lands and sealed it away. From the Scion's act 2 dialogue we can surmise that the forest were/are the Atziri lands. We can thus infer that the Eternal Empire sealed the darkness into the Vaal Pyramid OR possibly into the Vaal Oversoul itself. Additionally, from Siosa and the golden pages I believe it is mentioned how the Vaal counterpart of Malachai (starts with a D, god I hate these names) did something with caused the downfall of the Vaal empire. I think there is a greater force behind everything, like op said. This being seems to chose people and give them mastery over the gems. First were the Vaal, who created the skill gems if I am not mistaken. Then came Maligaro (who, according to wiki, created the darkness), then Malachai who recieved help at creating the Map device (and maybe with the gemling queen too) and now Piety. You first see her in the prison, reading Shavronnes journal (and you later find Kole, an exact copy of Shavronnes Brutus) and later using her thaumaturgic barricade. The second time she is in the Chamber of Sins, trying Maligaros method of infusing the essence of gems into subjects, but failing, since she was missing his spike (I doubt you can call Fidelitas a success) And finally she is trying Malachais method of surgery (with Tolman in the crematorium and in her own lab). Dominus interest in her and the blood vortex are clear signs that she made a deal with this being, just like the others before her, to achieve their level of skill, since she failed doing so on her own. Following that thought, the exiles seem to be chosen as well, since they can use the skill gems without trouble and with great effect. The reason yeenas tribe are uncorrupted, THEY DO NOT USE VIRTUE GEMS.
The gems allow this "being" to use HIS power on wraeclast. The gems seem to be conduits, and this allows most likely this "being" to interact and impress thoughts into the minds of folks. Offering immortality, and limitless power to those exposed to the effects of the gems. This "being" and the multitude of "krakken" and tentacle like art on the scepter of god, tell me this thing is some kind of cthulu like being or something......hell look at the forum background on one side is the tower, the other a tentacle like red blob of something.....I think thats the "being" |
