Ok, there is some math - letters of exiles have date around 1590 IC... Cataclysm, which ripped apart ancient Ezomite Empire (now - Oriath, with capytal Theopolis) happened exactly in 51 IC if i not mistaken... But the thing is, Empire have zero business with this thing - ingame text, Fixture of Fate mostly, mostly suggest this whole mess is Vaal Empire fault. Yes, same crazy dudes who made this one fine bastard Vaal Oversoul. Whole thing happend because of "Gems Cradle" and "The Beast". My bet? Act 4 will be dealing with this in mountains tile set or fully underground one.
P.S.Oh, how can i forget this - i have a very, veeery bad feeling about Piety and her new K.O. animation :) |

Your missing a pretty big lore piece. MALACHI
There is a plaque in the eternal labratory with some lore tidbits in it about a "being" that showed malachi how to build the labratory....and that it demanded him to visit or something....the entire IDEA of the eternal labratory creates maps, almost like minature nightmares or realities. What being could control such a device ? And why would it "ask" malachi to visit again ? |

I don't like that dream concept. That would be too blunt, obvious and shallow.
I like (a bit) the underground sleeping 'god' concept, but H.P.Lovecraft does it better. I have my own theory concerning these stones. Stones - nothing but a shell, a container for some kind of an energy. And that energy is the only thing that matters. I keep wondering what The Cataclysm is. I like the lore and I hope that GGG will surprise me in a good way. And I like your thread. Maybe that forum isn't that hopeless. Put on your red shoes and dance the blues. So far its looks like Vaal caused Cataclysm - something like waking up a Cthulhu :)
And yes - so far as lore goes, Gems work up exactly like container for "thaumaturgy" energy. P.S. Wait, MALACHAI built map device? Same mad dude who inspired Piety of all people? O.o |

I think they overdid the Scion's narrative on dreams. If this is just a dream world (or dream world made real) that's so lame.
My theory is that Dominus was insane. Claiming the world is an illusion is the kind of thing someone who dreams of being powerful would say, as a justification for why they don't fit in the world the way they think they should. But Dominus already has significant formal political power (also magical power, apparently), which makes it pretty inconsistent for him to believe the world is anything but real. The best way to explain that away is to say he was just insane. |
