They ARE competitions, but also competitions based on the principle of fair play. Cowboy duels only ever shoot at the same time, therefore the person with the better skill wins. In sword duels, if one person has a sharp blade, and the other person a dull blade, then the duel is not fair.

You have no idea what the difference between HC and Default in in POE, so you should actually do some research before pulling facts out of your ass.

And POE IS a competitive game. It doesn't have to be for some players. Why do you think PVP was introduced if the players didn't want competition? No competition means there is little to no drive to level up.

I'll give an example of how gold buying can ruin a game experience.

There is a Korean MMORPG called Rappelz. At the moment, the level cap is set at 180, but most people don't make it past 150 the leveling is that grueling.

To be truly rich in that game, it takes years of playing the game to collect high tier pets, get the rarer drops and earn certain milestones.

I only know of ONE player who became filthy rich without using the cash shop or RL trading.

The rest bought their wares with real money, removing all challenge of becoming rich.

And that is the point of Path of Exile. Everything is a challenge. You are a filthy, sea sodden exile fighting for survival, not a godlike paladin with 300% more shiny. If you buy anything to make the game easier (P2W), then this is not the game for you. This game WILL not cater to lazy idiots like yourself. GGG have said time and time again, they are against P2W, and using real money to purchase items is P2W.

Go back to Runescape.

I can liken Rappelz to North Korea.
You can play Rappelz. You can live in North Korea.
Rappelz is just tedious level grinding. North Korea is a horrible place to live in.
Rappelz probably doesn't allow gold farming and Pay 2 Win. North Korea doesn't allow people to flee the country.

A game will only get trouble with gold farming when the game deserves gold farming.

I played Rapplez for quite some time ( should have around 1000 hours in it according to Xfire) I played that game from when it was called Rapplez Epic III to Rapplez Epic V (Epic VIII should be coming in a few weeks I think). So with over 1000 hours invested in it I only had two characters at lvl 60 (without using any xp scrolls), I didn't know that they raised the cap lvl so much in the past years but I think I'm happy I quited when I did.

The hard cap for rappelz was always 180.

But there has always been a soft cap which is defined by the mob levels and questing availability. There are certain quests that are stupid to avoid because of how much exp you can get from them. FOr example, the Witch quests, which get you from 70-90.

It's easier to level from what it was at epic III, but the game has become way to much pay to win. The most OP gear you could imagine can be bought in the cash shop.

EDIT: The hard cap might be 170, not sure. Haven't played in a bit.

Captcha/number codes before logging in or after choosing a character.

Creative mode:

Make an NPC that invades your instance dressed up as Batman and will ask you to type random words ala Captcha. You become immune to attack/will be ignored by mobs at this point. Get it wrong ten times or if you don't reply within 10 minutes Batman will ban that character.
Being a great detective, Batman will also trace the account and email address used for the character and send that to the devs. The devs will then warn the said botter. If the botter fails to stop then a ban will ensue.
+1 for Batman NPC :D

What's the difference between such a NPC and Captchas? The NPC might look funny, but after a while it will annoy you just as the captcha would. And good programs can act almost like humans, they have a growing database and can answer things like "what colour is the sky?"

Oh, and I don't want to be banned because I'm just afk and batman shows up.

I love this board so much.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

lol.
GGG - Why you no?
+1 for Batman
Every game board has the same tired arguments over and over again.

IndignateOne: We needs captchas so we have no bots.

HeroWorshipper: But the bot writers can over come anything thrown at them since they are awesome.

Player: Just don't ruin the game with a bunch of annoying stuff just to kill bots.

Economist: Based on my internet degree, bots will fulfill the basic requirements of hyper inflation which destroy the world as we know it.

Noob: Can I get some help with a build I am thinking about.

All: Hey we are talking botting here go away.
