So where does GGG go from Path of Exile?
"I may be judging it to harshly - I say it wasn't that great mostly because I can't remember any specific thing it did that struck me as great. I certainly enjoyed it at the time, and I might look into trying it out again, see how it actually hold up. | |
I may have to check it out. I do wish more settings would be explored in an ARPG type setting. I just get so obsessed with the loot system of most ARPG. I feel like every game with loot that involves some kind of repetitive action is improved by having it.

" Here's my wistful prediction: PoE Act 14 A gold portal shimmers into being out on the waters near Lioneye's, flickers and then dies with a blast that sends waves crashing against the coast. Yeena looks up from her conversation with Tarkleigh and Nessa. Nessa gave Yeena a sharp look, "Don't say I told you so." Yeena held up her hands and shrugged. Tarkleigh said, "If this is your dream, than what are we to them?" Yeena said, "We are their dreams, nightmares intertwined like lovers." Tarkleigh growled, "I can see them in their strange mottled cloth armor, with two handed metal wands they hold forth like a lance for charging,?" Nessa said,"How can you see them, when they aren't even there?" Tarkleigh flipped up the band of patch that covered the eye he had lost. A golden glow emanated from the socket. "I found it washed up on the coast long ago." Yeena shrieked and backed away, "What possessed you to risk such a horror?" Tarkleigh shifted his feet and looked downward, "All our lands are at peace, the evils finally quieted and I wanted to be whole again. I wanted Nessa to look at me not in pity and gratitude but as a man. "How could you do this?," Nessa shook with rage. "Tarkleigh, your vanity has doomed us all!" Nessa buried her face in her hands, and walked away from them. Tarkleigh pointed out at several dozen new golden portals shimmering into existence. These ones remained stable and eventually opened. "Why aren't they attacking?" Yeena glowered at Tarkleigh, "Perhaps they are not familiar with portals yet. Perhaps we should not wait for them to come to us, but should go to them instead." Tarkleigh looked back at Nessa for one last time, "There is nothing for me here now. My apology would be worthless, but I will try to make things right." He headed down the sand and began wading toward one of the portals. A few steps from one of the glowing ovular discs Tarkleigh paused and looked back, "Anyone with me?" A dozen exiles held up their weapons and sallied forth, each exclaiming a different battle cry. Tarkleigh grinned and the portals winked out as they rushed through them. .............. I won't detail the worlds they emerge in, but my wistful glance at GGG's future has the Exiles as some sort of anachronistic semi-super heroes* ranging through battles across the chronosphere, by utilizing the Temporal Portals that Tarkleigh can help open with his gem of virtue. They might battle dinosaurs and alien space troops. They might help in viking raids or try to quell Genghis Kahn's attack on a few towns. The Exiles would be the "Eternals" and their quest would be to shut down all the external portals that have a dream connection to Wraeclast. Path of Eternals For some reason, I envision the party emerging in New York City and the Templar getting a ticket for not wearing any pants. *(they are very mortal, but more powerful than the usual flesh and blood humans) "The only legitimate use of a computer is to play games." - Eugene Jarvis PoE Origins - Piety's story http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2081910 Last edited by DalaiLama#6738 on Nov 1, 2013, 12:28:04 AM

Chris has said that he'd most likely remain working on the PoE "franchise." That suggests to me that there may be PoE games outside of the ARPG genre in the future, but only GGG knows for sure.
Regardless, it would almost be silly if they didn't release a trading card game. The artwork, lore, and other assets are already there. Jonathon comes from a Magic: The Gathering background. TCGs are hot right now, and there is definitely room for a dark, gritter version of Hearthstone. I also imagine it's on the simpler side in terms of programming. A mobile version would be cool, especially given all of the mobile developer talent that is in New Zealand. If GGG were to kickstart a TCG with the PoE universe, they'd definitely have my money. |

" You do know Brian Weissman works for GGG too right? To say he comes from an MTG background would probably be vast understatement. |

" Oops, that's who I actually meant. |

As far as space action RPGs go, there is also Drox Operative, which is made by Soldak, makers of Din's Curse. Din's Curse... now that's a game I'm thinking some members of GGG must have played.
Have you made a cool build using The Coming Calamity? Let me know!

" No forgetting Phantasy Star Online now, and PSO2, but I love me some PSO. You can even still play it on the free servers. IGN = Dellusions_Duelist
