Scion is counter to POE's atmosphere
So one thing I've always liked about POE is that it never compromised its dark and gritty atmosphere with contradictory, sexualized images. Sure, there were bare breasts in the game, but they were never just thrown in as an attempt to randomly arouse the player. They were part of the atmosphere or, even more brilliantly, part of the horror. As far as character design was concerned, the male characters were masculine and muscular where relevant and the female characters were unflatteringly dressed to SURVIVE, not pole dance. This kind of honesty with the dark undertones of Wraeclast really helped to maintain a superb atmosphere that stuck with me no matter how many times I logged in. It was icing on an already outstanding cake.
But lo an behold, I open a browser a few days ago right before release and head to POE.com. And what's the first thing I see? BOOOOOOBS! /eyeroll. So I'm like, "okay, maybe some guy in the marketing department insisted on 'moar boobs!' for the website." But when I log in to the game to read the Scion's backstory, I click on her and she does a Runway Walk across the deck before rubbing her backside seductively... *Head Explodes* Really, GGG? Trying to tap into the adolescent LoL demographic, are we? Give me a freakin' break... Thanks for the sore thumb in an otherwise impeccable atmosphere. Am I the only one that feels insulted? Sure, I love the idea of the backstory: noblewoman was raised to be an ornament to her noble house, then kills her husband on her wedding bed in resentment. Great idea. Awesome idea. But do more than put a cut on her leg. Yes, give her a hint of a regal air, but take off the damned lipstick and make up. Make her face bruised. As she stands about to be selected by the player, make her pull a soiled rag across her bare breasts as she casts venomous glances at the criminals and rapists whom she has shared an unsettling voyage. But please, oh please don't design her in a way that's meant to give the player a freakin' hard on. Why? Because it's a distraction and it makes the player less willing to suspend their disbelief. I think maybe you're reading too much into this.
"The path of a true warrior is not how strong you become to defeat others; but how strong you become to protect those who matter most."

didn't even notice. you are too uptight.
The game does not adapt to you, you adapt to it.

Lol, I figured that would be the general reaction. Yeah, it IS my opinion, and I thought I'd let GGG know that adding boobs to EVERYTHING doesn't necessarily make it better. Bacon is awesome, for instance, but I don't want bacon bits in my god damned ice cream.
Stick to what you do best, GGG. If I want porn, I'll go watch porn. And believe me, the porn industry is gonna do it a lot better than you can. |

I don't know what you are referring to. I didn't notice any of that. Can you post a link?

She's surviving with the skills she was bred to have. Skills with the object of appealing to men so she can use them for her own advancement. It's in line with her story.

Dancing, it is a small detail, but it seems like it just got shoehorned in to add sex appeal. If every single product geared toward men weren't always trying to sell with sex, I wouldn't mind as much. And trust me, if you are married to a hardcore ARPG enthusiast like I am, you tend to notice these things a lot more.
Lenin, when you click on "game" on the website, you get a hot blonde with cleavage and perfectly conditioned hair. https://www.pathofexile.com/game Again, small stuff, but I hold POE (which is the ARPG I've always wanted and will play for a long time regardless of the little stuff) to high standards. |
