What is the advantage to taking Avatar of Fire? Converting all non-fire damage to 50% fire damage seems like a waste on the surface.

Does Avatar of Fire convert your minions' damage to 50% fire as well?

It increased my Infernal Blow DPS by 400 points or something like that, from some reason.

It can increase dps due to how converting stacks with damage bonuses. If have 100 phys that gets converted to fire it will get the damage increases from both phys and fire. So I'm guessing that the point of AoF is to try to start with one dmg type and convert as much as possible in as many steps as possible and then stack several kinds of damage increases.

The easiest example is 100% phys bow with perfect blackgleam and aof. That will convert 100% phys to fire. So the fire will get all the phys dmg bonuses like Iron grip.

I been thinking about making a build with ice arrow that converts in two steps. Same 100% phys bow, ice arrow with cold as fire support gem and AoF. This will convert 40% of the phys to cold and then 100% of the cold to fire. Also 50% of the phys will be converted directly to fire so you lose 10% phys damage unless you got blackgleam or similiar.

Seems nice in theory since a lot of nodes in the skill tree becomes very useful which would have been pretty much useless with a 100% ele build+bow. However you don't have infinite points and running out of useful nodes isn't a problem. With several steps like the ice example above it also gets more complicated because not all damage bonuses will be equally good depending on the conversation %,auras , the weapon, etc.
Just look at weapon elemental dmg support gem. Instead of increasing just the elemental dmg, it will increase 100% of your fire dmg by 80%. Weapon elemental nodes also give quite some serious dmg, as do some pure elemental nodes.

I have a question.

If for example, I want to use Ice Spear with AoF, would taking the Increased Cold Damage nodes increase Ice Spear's fire damage? (Because I want to take both Increased Fire and Cold Damage nodes).

Yep, you'd benefit from both.

Converted damage takes into account both modifiers of the source damage type and modifiers of the resulting damage type, and adds them together.
Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding Avatar of Fire or maybe just damage converstion in general. If I use discharge with 2 different kinds of charges, will I get one big fire hit with the converted damages stacked with each other or will I get up to 3 instances of damage each originating in the discharge of one type of charge?

What Im wondering is if I can scale the frost and shock damage from discharge with my burning damage increases using AoF or if the damage instances are separate meaning the burn dot from the endurance discharge is probably gonna overwrite the ones from frenzy and power charges.

Nope.

First thing, Discharge does one hit which can have varied damage composition, there is no 'fire hits after lightning or anything. All skills work that way, even if you do multiple damage types it's still one hit.

Second, different elemental effects stack, you can be shocked and frozen at the same time or even all three. Also, all of them can be applied with a single hit if it carries all three elements.

Anyway, once you take AoF you can do only fire damage.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Thanks for the help, I was worried I wouldnt be able to scale the other damage types via burn damage and duration increases using AoF.
EDIT: Nevermind

One question

If you have 100 cold damage linked with a 40% cold to fire and AoF you would get:

1) 100 cold transformed to 60cold and 40 fire> 60/2+40= 70 fire damage

OR

2) 100 cold transformed to 50+40 fire> 100/2+40= 90 fire damage?
Conversion is additive, you convert 90% Cold to Fire.

A "Pure Ohysical" IB build with AoF would be able to add WED and IPD

Break all the burn.
