I personally wouldn't (and don't) use steam with wine for now, until more people figure out the best process. stick to what is known to work.

Got into the game this time, crash happened immediately, though:

The only non-font related bug that appears relevant in Wine is this one:
"fixme:d3d_surface:surface_load_location Unimplemented copy from SFLAG_INTEXTURE to SFLAG_INSRGBTEX for depth/stencil buffers." |

" I think I may be misinterpreting you here: are you saying I shouldn't be using the PC version of Steam at all on my Mac, or that I shouldn't be trying PoE with the same install as my Steam is on? |
|
|
well, you seem to be using wine on your Mac to play PoE. I would just stick with the non-steam version for now (under wine)
if you're using bootcamp or windows directly somehow, that's a different thread completely. |

No, you're correct, I'm using my normal Mac OS. I'll try the standalone game- my worry is the bug with the allocating memory that makes it take hours. OS X users can't do symlinks like Linux users can, so I'm not sure how to work around.
Edit: Taking your advice and attempting a clean install of the game on a clean Wine(skin) package. We'll see how it goes. Allocating Memory appears to be close to being done, but also appears to be getting exponentially slower as it nears the end. Edit: Didn't get stuck on allocating memory! Huzzah! Possibly just a Linux-Wine bug, then. I didn't look into it much. Last edited by Rathlord#6940 on Oct 24, 2013, 2:14:45 AM

Clean install with --nosound flag gets me an apparently functional game. I'd really love to have sound enabled- anyone with any idea what the problem might be there?

Still struggling away at this. I'm sure OS X users are pretty low priority since it's basically just through emulation, but any insight anyone could offer would be invaluable.
I actually got it working with sound last night for all of 30 seconds, and then the game crashed and now I can't duplicate it. I crash at a different point every time I launch now, from the main screen all the way till the loading screen. I now get to the loading screen even with sound on, but no sound actually happens. I achieved this by overriding openal32 to native (the game provided copy). |

" Did you try -swa or --softwareaudio as well? |

Got it working- not sure what did it.
Enabled GDI in regedit, also changed a bunch of settings to low during a brief period where the menu was working. Could be either or both. I also used the game's directX installer instead of the normal Wine one. |
