Account Banned W/O Any Explanation
" It doesn't usually work that (detailed explanation), but this may be your first experience at it (or for that matter hearing about a ban), but most of the time, you're given a very brief, non- detailed explanation, accompanied by an apology. However, don't take my word for it, I could be wrong in this case. As for "paying customer"... no one here is a paying customer, not even Charan. Well I understand that's the usual case so that's why I am asking for it. I'm not asking for a full page report I just don't want something like for example "you were suspected of hacking" one liner without any reason why that was the case.
Even few sentences would do like "because of what happened on xx/xx with your xxxxx you were suspected of hacking" or "because of high density of illicit activity detected in your area" and so on As for the "paying customer" part since I'm using their service, I am a customer. And I have decided to pay for part of their service offering by choice, which does make me a paying customer or supporter or whatever you want to call it. I'm not saying this makes me special or puts my case in priority, but simply saying as for someone who has contributed however insubstantial amount to the development of the game and put money in their wallet, I feel that I'm not asking for something unreasonable by requesting an explanation of why something like this has happened. I didn't get to contribute as much as I'd have like to boast of it but honestly, I've grown to like the game so much that if my finances were not tied up due to personal circumstances, you'd be seeing another user created unique item if it was just couple years ago. That's how much I've grown fond of the game. Which is why this incident is such a disappointment. Maybe the terminology used wasn't the best choice but that's what I intended to say I mean if you run into similar situation with any business with their service such as mobiles, electricity, or even educational institutes, it's within reasonable bounds to request an explanation for such occurence, which is all I'm asking for. In the cases with paid service interruption for unjust cause, monetary compensation can be requested and granted unless otherwise stated by policy but I'm not asking for any monetary compensation for time lost and emotional distress caused by the incident. And yes I'm saying emotional distress. For a someone who's loved gaming since I was a child and haven't found a single game that wasn't a disappointment in recent years, getting banned in a game that I've finally decided to commit to is upsetting. It wasn't something that'd drive me up the wall crazy but for whole day it constantly nagged in the back of my mind especially when I wasn't even told WHY this happened and I could not think of a single reason why it may have happened. Also, just by receiving a ban even if it gets lifted, whoever saw my posts in forum will see that nice red BANNED mark. Whether I'm innocent or not, the damage is done. Whether or not how insignificant amount of people sees it or remembers it, it hurts my pride to have anything that relates to negative reputation linked to my name. In my gaming years in younger days I've been a moderator, guild/clan leader and always been in good standings with every games I've played even when it became more casual in recent years as life got more busy. So yeah... I really don't feel that I'm being unreasonable in requesting for an explanation. Last edited by kurayukiMK2#7352 on Oct 22, 2013, 9:39:23 PM

About 1 hour until official launch
Congratulations, GGG and everyone who's been waiting. I'm excited and happy about the launch but still waiting on response regarding my account which also makes me feel a bit sad. Well, hopefully I'll get some kind of update once the launch craziness passes |

after reading along with this I must say im a bit leary of joining this game, whether you are guilty or not, if the company cannot have the consideration to respond to a serious legitimate public inquiry by someone who has contributed financially to their company , during the opening live release for their game?!?! It shows the company does not care about public opinion (this is a public forum probably thousands of people will have a chance at seeing it) If a company does not care about public opinion then it probably doesnt care about its games supporters. Which in turn means they most likely will not re-invest profits back into the game to enhance and upgrade and so forth. If this is the case, then this company is no different then the thousand other sellout copycat gaming companys out there. I do hope im wrong, but public forum is an excellent gauge to a companys morals and standards.

" Thanks for your voice of concern. Well, at least GGG, particularly Henry, did respond to my request 3 times now, though without much information but was apologetic, which is more than most people can say about a lot of companies. Official launch looks great. Only thing that really gets me down is that I'm forced to play on another account still and ultimately going to waste quite a bit of time since I designed a build for Scion but was forced to build it with Marauder, considering there was no clear data for new account thus no availability. Still waiting for some kind of update though... |

" Don't be leery of joining. These types of things rarely happen. Also, the company DOES have consideration and a very responsive support department. Much better than any other game I've personally been involved with (which is why I help out a lot). Ban investigations can take some time. They're not common for people who aren't participating in banned activities, but it does happen on occasion (this is only the 3rd case I've EVER seen of an IP ban getting someone on accident). That is to say, you have less than a 1 in 1million chance of it happening. What you might see on the forums from the support staff comes through in emails. Because I do a lot of support around here, they don't interject as often as they might otherwise if there weren't people like myself and lagwin assisting. That isn't to say they don't read forums. They are constantly on them. They just don't need to interject "yup" to all the threads we reply to. If you want a personal response from support (GGG staff), your best bet is to email them. Don't judge GGG too quickly or too harshly based on a couple of isolated incidents. They really are doing their best to resolve issues and they are doing what's right for the game... long term. They don't want a bunch of exploits ruining the economy, and the OP even agrees with it. It is unfortunate that sometimes innocent people get caught up in it, but they are usually quickly resolved (at non launch times). Usually within a few days. Good luck. |

Well, good news. Ban was lifted so pretty happy about that.
However, in the e-mail, there was not a single explanation why the whole ordeal happened in the first place. I'm not trying to sound ungrateful but I have repeatedly stressed I really want an explanation for what has happened. If not just to satisfy my curiosity and to satiate my anguish about the ban but if there was anything I may have done that could have caused the ban, I could prevent it in the future. I mean I didn't ask for any compensation for all the distress and inconvenience the ban caused, though I would not have refused if offered, but all I asked for was an explanation. Ban occuring without explanation was what really upset me in the first place. I understand you guys are busy but once again, I humbly request an explanation why I had to go through what I had to go through. Thank you |

" They often don't give reasons because they can't give details. They protect those details because if the hackers/exploiters/cheaters learn HOW they were banned, they can work around it to try to avoid bans in the future. For that reason, they don't go into any details about why a ban takes place. I know it sounds brash and I don't mean it that way, but you were unbanned. Be happy you can play your old account again and do that. You most likely will never get an explanation. Also keep in mind that this game is free to play. You aren't purchasing a "product" and you don't "own" any part of the game, the company, or your character. This is pretty standard for most online games. The other games that are online that are "purchased", you are simply purchasing a license to play it. In this case, the license is free. They don't "owe" you anything. Yes it is nice to get on occasion, but there is no such thing as "compensation" since you aren't paying for a product. I am truly sorry your account was banned, but happy that it has been unbanned. Now you can get back to the game. Good luck. |

Well, thanks to the diligent GGG support, I got a reply that even though they could not go into detail for security reasons, as Drakier kindly pointed out, apparently I was flagged for botting.
The day before ban, I took the day to test out Cruel Hillock Farming build after seeing it on Reddit, partly for myself and partly for certain PoE community forum to possibly recommend it if it proved to be pretty efficient. I've done Cruel hillock run for probably 7-8 hours? if not more? for data collection and whatnot. Even though I have continued to chat while doing so and took breaks, did irregular things, traded, apparently farming/grinding Hillock repeatedly was enough to get flagged for ban. So in summary, I got banned for farming/grinding in a loot-based ARPG. Just a warning to everyone, don't use any repeated farming method or you may have your account banned. I'm really not trying to be sarcastic or cynical about this but no matter how many times I look at what I wrote I can't help but sounding that way without any intention for it... Anyway, thank you for all of your support and thank you GGG for awesome game and actually responding to my call for assistance. Last edited by kurayukiMK2#7352 on Oct 25, 2013, 12:54:07 PM
