Account Banned W/O Any Explanation
So today, I log in to PoE and start farming docks.
All of a sudden screen stops and puts me into login screen. Well, I don't sweat. Disconnection and crashes are often and they're pretty much the few shortcomings of this otherwise perfect game, so I click login again. Then, I receive this message " I can't believe what I'm seeing so I click again, same thing. I retype in my login information, same thing. Now, to clarify, I have NEVER done RMT, used macro, or anything I could possibly think of that would cause a ban whatsoever. It was so out of the left field it just left me shocked. So I head onto the forums click support, there's no direction on where to approach for bans and etc. so I make a reasonable approach of e-mailing support e-mail, which then occurs to me Oh, if they're going to ban my account they may haven mistaken it for something and must have done me the common minimum courtesy of explaining WHY it was banned Upon going to my e-mail to write/check the e-mail, I find ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. So I get banned for reason unbeknownst to me without a single word, which is quite upsetting. Of course I proceeded to write an e-mail inquiring about the ban but this whole thing left a sour note in my mouth. If you're going to ban accounts people spend hours and hours of time and money on (yes I did spend money on my account not really because of need for it but because I felt that game was awesome and I should contribute what little I could for enjoying it) Then at least do the minimum courtesy of sending a notice of what and why certain action is happening. Once again, I have not done any RMT, used macros, nor anything I could possibly think of that would result in a ban other than simply playing the game Last edited by Henry_GGG on Oct 25, 2013, 12:56:01 PM

Just an update, now it's saying an IP ban which I think is an upgrade of a ban?
I'm not sure if I should laugh or be pissed off at how ridiculous this is. Seriously what the hell is going on? Once again not a single notice came with this Reason why I'm posting this in forum is not because of the ban itself. Mistakes can be made, yes. They can be irritating but taken with grain of salt because we are all human. But why isn't there any explanation of what's going on? That's the minimum etiquette for your customers |

Email support via the address in my sig.
They generally don't ban for no reason, though there have been a few mistakes made in the past. If it's an IP ban it could also be that the area you are in could have had a blanket ban due to the high number of Hacks/hackers in your area or that you have a dynamic IP that someone else in your area has had and done something. " Thank you for your reply It's not that I did not consider the possibility of blanket ban. What made me upset is that until contacted, I received not a single word about why the account is banned. If I'm going to be inconvenienced into getting the mistake fixed, at the very least they could have sent out an e-mail of what/why something is happening. |

Well it is around 6 am there atm so if they are slow on the email that would be why but they will get back to you.
And the only thing i can say about them not explaining the ban is from another thread where the user had used a third party program to exploit...rather than tell him what when and how he was caught and enable them to work around it they didn't give an explanation. He also raged on the forums and did manage to get the ban lifted but was promptly banned again after continuing what ever it was he was doing. Like i said though they don't generally ban accounts unless there is evidence of wrong doing or occasionally by mistake, they don't ban for multi boxing, or exploiting bugs or even excessive trolling or theft via trading. If it is a blanket ban that would explain why there is no email though. Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

" Once again thank you for your reply and explanation. Considering the fact that I have done nothing of the sort I'm not too worried about the ban lifting itself. Once again what upset me is that on top of wasted time I have just been hit out of nowhere with no explanation nor just cause. Not a detailed explanation but generalized reason would have worked. Also, I am very surprised if this was a blanket ban by the way because it is an act that very much ignores customer's convenience for company's convenience and I didn't think that GGG was of that sort, since everyone who is innocent of wrongdoing have to go through what I am going through due to few bad apples. Or perhaps I held GGG in too high of a regard Last edited by kurayuki2#4366 on Oct 21, 2013, 1:11:19 PM

" Just an FYI: the ban is likely NOT to "lift itself". If you want to be unbanned, you will need to contact support to get it lifted (if it is indeed accidental due to someone else in your area). They also don't contact you by account because they don't necessarily know that "your account" was caught in the ban unless you contact them and let them know. Then they can investigate your account and determine if you should be given an exemption. IP bans are meant to capture a lot of accounts within an area (accounts mostly deemed as hostile). Sometimes innocents get caught in this, but lucky for you, they can usually quickly rectify those with exemptions once it is brought to their attention. |

As mentioned in original post, e-mail has already been sent.
I don't follow your logic of being lucky that they can rectify their mistakes when you're a VICTIM of the mistake in the first place? So if you go outside and get hit by a car, lucky for you the driver's insurance will pay for your hospital fees? |

" That's not even at all a comparable analogy. I meant that luckily they can resolve it quickly and get you back to playing.. unlike other games where they ban you and never bother to even look at your support emails or make any attempt to unban your account (*cough*blizzard*cough*). Sometimes people get caught up in the IP bans who are victims.. absolutely correct. It's a necessary evil when you have hackers who are creating MULTIPLE accounts for violating policies and causing havok in the game. Unfortunately for you, they are in your area. I look at it similar to identity theft or credit card fraud. You can be a victim in that as well and someone else can use your identity or credit card and charge up a whole bunch of stuff on your account. Without detection, you'd be footing the bill for that. LUCKILY there are places that help handle that, and in most cases, the credit card company will quickly reverse the charges and get your account back on good standing. It's unfortunate that there are idiots in the world who attempt to always do bad things and things they shouldn't be doing (and KNOW they shouldn't be doing). Victims get caught up in this stuff all the time. Lets just be thankful that in this case, Path of Exile is just a game, and it won't break the world to accidentally get caught up in an IP ban. Yes it is annoying, I'm sorry that it happened to you. But you have to look at the big picture. It's better that a few innocent people accidentally get banned (and can quickly and fairly easily get themselves unbanned) than it is to have a bunch of hackers and exploiters completely ruining the game for everyone else. |

" Agreed for the most part except the part that credit card/banks restore monetary losses from identity theft/fraud due to the law (not true in every country) but in this case there is no compensation for time/service lost. Well, I am unaware of the fact that PoE was so hack/exploit infested to the point it was game threatening (and probably better off not knowing so) but I still don't necessarily agree with blanket bans of any kind that's just how I feel. But, as I've said I do agree with what you've said for the most part In any case this is something that the victim in question should try to understand with an apology not something that should feel "lucky" about is what I was getting at.
