As someone studying psychology, you sound like an edgy teenager trying to sound smart. You can't even use proper grammar or spelling.

Try actually knowing a bit about psychology and how society is constructed before trying to argue against it.

And mate, if you REALLY think that addiction aren't real, you try coming off heroin after heavy use. You'll find that you'll go into a coma.

Come back to me when you lose family
members to drugs.

If you're someone studying psychology, you might want to loosen up on that rude and invalidating attitude. Easy way to be an awful psychologist.

Was having a bad day then, and took it out on the forums.

No more mr negative :P

I have been thinking about the original premise. I think I may have an answer.

Addiction is associated with a negative condition. Alcohol, drugs, eating, sex. Doing things that are bad for you, but you are compelled to deal with one way (Fight the addiction) or another (give in to the addiction)

What I believe the other side of the coin is, and it may be a matter of semantics, passion. Passion allows for a constructive use of a drive that may be called addiction under another terminology.

Wait.. what??? Sex addiction is bad??? Crap! Perhaps some are just giving it a bad name? We need to create awareness that you can fight this addiction and it's easy! After all sex only takes one hand if you have access to a keyboard.

MoonYu - I like your definition, it is similar to ones already mentioned, in that, an addiction is only a bad addiction when it's required to stop. I guess the nub of the problem is, who decides why someone needs to stop the addiction and why.

Passion is an interesting comparison. There can be occasions when passion is similar to addiction, but, on the whole, it is slightly different. For example, I could develop a passion for marijuana without becoming addicted, where as I couldn't develop a passion for tobacco but I would still become hopelessly addicted.

Pavshaus - come now... surely you can think of some situations where sex addiction might put someone in jeopardy...
Of course! Anything taken to excess or which results in uncontrollable conduct is not a good thing. I just can't resist any opportunity to make light of stuff...

Holy crap!!!! I'm a comedic sarcasm addict...

Spoiler
I'd be depressed if that wasn't so ironic that it's funny.

Lol, that's perfectly fine, the thread does permit all forms of addiction!
