I would say that "cannot leech mana" won´t work well with mana shield. Just saying.

I guess the helmet would open an alternative option instead of mana leech. Mana regen + the mana gain on beeing damaged could provide enough defenses. I would say we'll need to wait and see it in action ;)

Well the thing is you only rely on mana regen, flasks and the damage/mana conversion from the helm. But you don´t want to take much damage in the first place. So you will try to mitigate it with armor or other mechanism and therefore decrease the mana gain through the conversion.

While the mana gain with mana leech will be higher in comparison with this 7% conversion. You will always dish out more damage then taking damage.

Maybe it opens up a alternative but for me not a convincing one.

What can never be lent or earned?
Somewhat, that devours everyone and everything:
A tree that rush. A bird that sings. It eat bones and smite the hardest stones.
Masticate every sword. Shatters every shrine. It defeat mighty kings and carry mountains on lightly wings.

I don't suspect this will be as good as it seems. 30% of damage taken removed from mana instead? Why not just use a good mana reserve defensive aura and not have to worry about your mana pool refilling or losing the defense once it drops?

I'm sure it will be useful for some builds, don't get me wrong, but it's not going to be a must-have for people nearby.

Evasion builds mostly, since they don't use Determination.

Actually yes, if you think about it, it's a cheap way to increase the buffer for that one hit that gets trough.

I guess my first char to utilise mana shield will also rather leech than use this ;)

I'm planning on a scion throwing two handed weapons (probably axes because they have the most potential damage) taking mana shield (and EB if it will be possible), the mana and the life leech nodes in the tree, utilising
and warlords mark (btw i think WM will get more popular as well :P). That would provide a 7% phsicaly mana leech and 11% physical life leech :)
Proud 5th duelist in the Jul 1 2012 Ladder Race and in the Nov 3 2012 Solo Turbo Race :D
And even prouder 4th Templar in the Nov 10 Four-hour Party Hardcore Race :P

I'm thinking a projectile build with Ondar's Guile, Mana Shield and EB makes the most sense.
What i don´t like about mana shield is that in the meta right now you always want to stack all the possible auras. Leaving you with just enough mana to cast your skills or use bm gems or reaper. Things like that.

While with taking mana shield you want to have a good chunk of mana all time ready. So you won´t be able to stack auras. So you need a build that don´t rely much on auras. Or try to min/max your mana pool with knowledge how much damage you´ll take and how much mana you´re able to gain so that you´re in a situation where you can enjoy the bonus of not taking much damage to your life pool.

It´s so werd.

I'm excited to use this keystone on my facebreaker duelist and on my ea witch. Both get large mana pools and both could definitely use some more mitigation =p
Oh if I didn't comment on something it's either something that's up to GGG, untested, or not set in stone! Very little actually is, but still.

I think this is the point. An alternative to mindless aura stacking.
