Right, can you remind me what the point of the original poster was?

that there is less poe player actualy playing the game then before.

I'm quite curious how he came to this conclusion, given that the Xfire public statistics track the total number of hours played, rather than the total number of players.

Are you unaware of exilestats.com ?
We already have an overwhelming amount of data available to us to see player activity.

Exilestats is just another metric. I am excluded from it. Why...I wanted to be :)
Crafting doesn't exist in POE. Gambling does...and the house always wins.

Velocireptile - I LOL'ed. Which made me fart. I wish the office were empty right now :(

Hardlicker - I had to push the dog out of the way so I could get to the sexy quilt.

That's why I still pop in here from time to time. Looking for some positive changes, some innovative ideas that will take this game from being a copy/paste ARPG clone of a clone to something really special. It's a great game, but hey... this is 2013...
I'll admit I don't play PoE much anymore BUT lets get real here. Who gives a rats ass about xfire LOL?

It's like the MySpace of gaming communities.

D2 is nowhere near dead so PoE having a lower population doesn't mean it's dead either. With release, the potential steam release, and the new 4-month leagues the population should go up significantly.
Xfire is not to be confused with a true polling service. Something like Nielsen ratings would have the scientific rigor to actually state which games are doing well and which are dying.

Interestingly, Nielsen does have a video game survey, but since it's market-oriented it asks "Which video game are you most looking forward to buying next?" rather than asking people which games they're actually playing, presumably assuming that playing a previously bought game could consume days or weeks and thus is not a reliable market indicator. Such a method might be outdated in the age of F2P microtransaction gaming; I'd suggest they change the question to "Which video or computer game are you looking forward to spending money on next?" It's a significantly more clumsy question — and perhaps some linguist could polish it — but it would clue in those asked that microtransaction purchases count; you might see a lot of people answering FarmVille (an ugly truth, but a truth nontheless).
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Only sheep care about what others think of a game. I like PoE, so I play. I could be the only person on earth who likes it for all I know or care.

I havent booted up D2 since I started playing PoE.

also a month after D3 was released people were using xfire to claim D3 was dead, same for any recent MMO. these trolls do the same thing for every single online game. Thats all this is, is a troll and an excuse for statistic nerds to show off and argue with each other. Thats all these threads are and will ever be.
