Theres less people playing POE than Diablo TWO now on Xfire
|
XFire doesn't even seem to work with PoE anymore, just look at the recent numbers. Chris said yesterday there were more concurrent players than at the start of OB, still XFire shows a pitiful 500 hours played.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

" Ah. Guess I must be misusing it by having a friends list and conveniently opening up its overlay to check out some game guides :p " I "could" be wrong, but if Xfire still detects games based on executable name, it would of had to have it's rule updated twice to account for the new executable name change on the standalone client, and the Steam client (the original rule I wrote was only for Client.exe, which is deprecated). I would imagine the Standalone version got supported by now, but who knows? " If the usage of XFire would be an advantage or core feature I NEED, i'd be in. Yet i don't know any feature I need. Yep, that's the point, many people don't need XFire, because they don't even know what they would for. Anyways there is no point in starting an argument (relating to the whole thread) as there are people who use XFire and people who don't. Im out. |

http://store.steampowered.com/stats/
Top 10 on steam stats isn't bad by any means. Especially one day after release with a bug that prevented linked accounts from logging in. Also, games with external clients generally have a way bigger population than is represented on steam. Yes, many players will leave the game after the buzz passes, but many will stay. Point is, the game is far from dead. Also, Xfire is archaic and barely used anymore. It's hooking method is outdated and causes many problems especially in multiplayer games. It's overall structure has also been outdone by more recent launchers with way better coding. Xfire was never great, but a few years ago the alternatives were few so it stuck. It was particularly useful as a server browser for games which had a lacking one (call of duty i'm looking at you) but even then many people just ended up using the ASE to escape the clutter, especially in competitive games. Today, it's pretty much obsolete, as there are better options out there. | |
" No, I mean that although D2 is still a better game, this doesn't detract from the PoE dev team's quality because Blizzard North had nearly unlimited funds and dev time whereas PoE is indie. " These patches were not just what you said, they were major overhauls that changed the whole gameplay. D2 rocks and I miss it; even though I'm loving PoE the two can't be compared. PoE is a great tribute to D2 and as such it gives me a need to play D2 again. " Err I already heard of cheated items : 6L chest pieces. I wasn't ever bothered by dupes/cheats on D2, although yes I'm aware they existed. Now don't take me wrong, PoE improved in its design on many D2 features. The skill tree obviously, but many other things as well. Still, the incredible level of iteration of D2's development is hard to even approach. These guys had the time and resources to polish that turd to a shining mirror. (Yes, the turd is D2 in that sentence : although I'm praising it, I'm referencing an old expression). D2 is mastery-level craftsmanship on top of genre-creating innovation. The PoE team doesn't have the resources to polish their crafting as much as Blizzard North could : the time period is different, the market is different. They are doing GREAT. This game is a gem. It is precisely because it is so refreshingly and surprisingly good that it takes me back to D2. |

Stupid thread.
Xfire statistics are meaningless. Ex.: Dota 2 was ranked on xfire as being more played than LoL. What value does that have since everyone knows LoL has 30 mil players more ? |

Xfire is old, obsolete, buggy and not even used by most gamers. Steam stats are more "accurate". The day of the release, PoE was ranked #10 on Steam and, including the non-Steam users, it should have been on top 3, on the same day.
Furthermore, these stats mostly include real players, as more than 70% of the player base of other such games are bots. |

" You're obviously just looking through rose tinted goggles. Diablo 2 was good because it was the first of its kind that really took you anywhere. Path of Exile is quite simply a far superior game than Diablo 2 is. Fact. Anyone who says otherwise, no matter how eloquent they attempt to be, is simply wrong. |

He sounds a bit like the people who say vanilla WoW was sooo great and everything that came after it sucks. If vanilla WoW was released as a new game today, it would die in a matter of a week.

" You can't pass an opinion as fact. Technically? Yes, it's superior. Gameplay wise? That depends on your taste. I prefer PoE over D2. Although D2 had some mechanics which I think were better, I think the way PoE is designed actually works better overall. They still are 2 very different games, besides the obvious similarities. I'm not surprised some people prefer D2 over PoE and actually miss some aspects specific to Diablo. |
