Difficulty Level Naming

I definitely vote option C. I feel like it really helps set the mood and just fits nicely with the atmosphere.

I was thinking about this progression and I came up with several ideas. They are:

Shunned --> Outcast --> Banished --> Exiled
Marooned --> Expelled --> Banished --> Exiled
Condemned --> Outcast --> Banished --> Exiled
Outcast --> Expatriated --> Banished --> Exiled

(the problem with some of these is they mix verbs and nouns. i think you have to stick with the same scheme the whole way through for it to flow nicely)

or, my favorite,

Marooned --> Ostracized --> Banished --> Exiled

Thoughts?

Looking at kungfooe's post, I like the rearrangement: Outcast, Condemned, Banished, Exiled

I feel that "Shunned", "Marooned" and "Castaway" aren't strong enough words to represent the act of being exiled. "Expatriated" sounds like it came straight out of a thesaurus (it'll look odd as a difficulty level name).

It may be necessary for us to not put a specific name on the first difficulty (essentially "Normal", which we jokingly called "Hard" for now).

I'll talk to the others about these suggestions soon. They'll get a lot of strong opinions, I'm sure.

I don't think condemned really fits with the others. Of course if you wanted to include Normal then it can be:

Normal -> Outcast -> Banished -> Exiled

That wouldn't be too bad.

I think Outcast, Condemned, Banished, Exiled sounds pretty good to me to be honest.

However, if you guys think normal would be okay, that could work too.

I like how the new set-up is thematic of the game, thus giving the difficulty names a flavor. Normal doesn't really take away that flavor, it just sets a precedence for each difficulty immediately following it.

Sounds like a winner to me. I'm curious to hear what the response is from the rest of the GGG team.

I like it too.

They are thematically similar and meanings of consecutive lvls are gradually 'stronger' also their abbreviations/short forms will be different from each other.
You won't get puzzled as with D2 "nm" (normal or nightmare).
It's an interesting system. I would expect significant differences from (Outcast/Condemned) vs. (Banished/Exiled)

The two sets have totally different meanings technically... they are all bound by being 'status' modifiers, however the first are more like mental ousting, and the second are more physical ousting.

I would personally therefore expect some sort of significant difference between the interface (condemned/Banished) that wasn't there for the other interfaces.

Could you explain in more detail what you mean by interfaces in this context, please?

I would suggest not trying to overthink it.

Ya it is just a label regardless of it being a noun or verb or any other part of the English language. Just something that sounds cool and illustrates how hard this difficulty will be.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.
