Difficulty Level Naming

I like option C) also.
My suggestion – Outlaw - Outcast - Banished – Exiled Outlaw could be replaced with Castaway. Happy Days Abound.

Banished is pretty cool as one of the synonyms.
The reason we want four difficulties is because three isn't enough to do what we want. No one will survive the fourth difficulty though, so the point is a little moot. Lead Developer. " Ha! I like this mentality. Anyway, count me in for option C, with "Exiled" as the last. And of course, I (like a few others here before me) have my own take on the progression: Abandoned - Shunned - Outcast - Exiled (reasoning: not quite synonyms, the objective is to convey a sense of more and more isolation/rejection by what passes for society in the game world) Of course, using this naming scheme for difficulties suggests we think of them less as "how hard the world is" and more "how reviled your character is by the 'civilization(s)' of said world". I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out. Heard its twisted dreamed inanity In a whisper, in a shout. In the babbling cacophony The refrains are all the same: "[permutations of humanity] are unworthy of the name!" |

Pathetic -
Pitiful - fallacious - Veteran - Repent! That's what i'm talking about!

Will the fourth difficulty make enemies scale with the player’s level and or make every enemy max level? That’s my guess anyway…

I also like option C.
Ostracized could be another difficulty :) |

I thought that the fourth difficulty was just a way to eliminate the concerns of inflation that were expressed here. As the best way to eliminate inflation, is to make it so no one can accumulate enough of the high end equipment, to cause it, in the first place.
I agree with the others; option C is the best, followed by A. Marooned, Banished, Anathema, Exile Marooned is first, because you literally start out with nothing. Banishment, to me, implies they are kicking you out of the country to get you out of their hair, which means you are resourceful enough to cause trouble. I actually think that anathema is a 'stronger' word than exile, but I put it last as it seems GGG wants it there and it is in the game's title. |

I vote for A or B! Like them both...

A series like C would be cool. I think though that the first difficulty should be Normal mode. Its not original, but if you name the first difficulty Hard, then people will expect Hard, and if you dont deliver on difficulty, then people say the game is easy and for casual gamers. Naming it Normal and keeping the same level of difficulty as the Hard mode will make people say you delivered on your promise of a cut throat world and bring respect from hardcore gamers.
Something like: Normal-Shunned-Banished-Exiled |
