What's my bottleneck?

I have an imac from 2009 with barely any ram and I can run this game pretty well

HDD is a typical bottle-neck you should look at. if you have one (and not an SSD), make sure you de-fragment your system partition, and the game file using this tool.
cleaning some junk (especially useless registry entries) also helps. this tool will help you with it.

The HDD would be a bottleneck if you are transferring large files, not playing a game.

Also, DON'T defrag an SSD! You will break it. If you have Windows 7 make sure to turn your auto defrag off. There's plenty of info out there if you google it.

I would make sure that your GPU is dedicated to your video in your BIOS settings and that you don't have it split between your cpu and gpu.
This game needs to be optimized quite a bit. That's all there is to it.

Ya HDD will just affect loading times mostly. I don't defrag my SSD and no way in hell am I turning the game into runescape by lowering the textures. I'll double check my GPU in bios but it should be dedicated.
SSD is nice, but by no means do you need it for games.

I would say its the 1GB on your Video Card.

dude his GPU is literally 2x better than mine, and the rest of the system is 4x better than mine :)
this is either an overheating/driver/DX problem, a BIOS settings problem like Changeling said, or something else I can't put my finger on at the moment.

in any case, the optimization of the game code is still pretty horrible.
there is no shame in reducing settings as a last resort, until GGG make the necessary fixes.

Switching to med textures did nothing. I just tried at 1280x768 and the same stuff is happening in parties.

It's not the actual card model, its your specific card. There's likely something wrong with it. That system should handle the game fine.

Unless you're talking about framedrops when there are a billion effects on screen, in which case you should expect those frame drops.
just lowering your settings a bit will help a lot , no need to reduce the quality of the graphics too much , lowering your resolution and sending the textures to medium will make a world of difference in quality of game play and u wont even notice any noticeable difference in quality of graphics.

My pc is like terribad compared to yours and unless i get all iceshot/summoner/incenerate in one party my fps stays at 30 min 20 in 6 man group which surely dont use only autoattack (ye particles i hate u) .Hell the game is not that optimized too when it comes to skills so u will surely see improvements in the future. As for the bottle neck thing i agree with AintCare.

oops edit: meh it all depends by what u call huge fps drops......If u wanna stay 60 fps in 6man groups thats another story..

Switching to med textures did nothing. Most people are saying my video card though. That's what I originally thought.

Resolution perhaps? I got considerable FPS slowdown even at HD+ (when switching from XGA), but then again, I'm running a Radeon HD 4500.

edit: XGA = 1024:768, HD+ = 1600:900.
