I play Anarchy and I still Alt+F4 so I don't loose xp. I see nothing wrong for hardcore gamers who do it to escape death. They can still die from desync without knowing until it is too late so there will always be a threat. And that sucks. Probably the reason why I do not play HC.

" Ok, fine... There is a school of thought within the hardcore community that any and all tactics are fair: If it's in the game and the game allows me to do it, then it's "legal". The reasoning behind this is that the game doesn't always play fair. There will be lag, desync, bugs etc and these things WILL kill you. So if the game doesn't play fair, why should you? You're going to use every means at your disposal to ensure your survival and if that means you have a "panic-button" to get out quickly, then so be it. There was a particularly nasty bug in HellGate London, way back in the day. Basically, it would spawn Merciless Level monsters in a normal level map and the only way to tell was by seeing the "wrong" monsters in the map. Unfortunately, these monsters also had an aura that would instagib you, so you couldn't exactly go looking for them to double-check. Because of your starting location (beneath the surface of the street), they were impossible to see - the only warning you had was the sound effect and very occasionally the purple aura would leak through the wall. This bug killed hundreds of players and in response, most hardcore players created a macro that would almost instantly port them out of the level before it was too late. Of course, once you have such a macro for one particular instance, there is a subconscious pressure to use it more and more often... Nevertheless, this macro didn't always work - it was still very possible to die. Did this macro save lives? Of course. But the danger was very much still there. That said, I would be more inclined to support your argument if players were using macros to quickly leave an instance - but they're not. They're using a mechanic that is built into the game. Now, whether or not you think this is somehow "cheating" is a debate that has been ongoing for as long as there have been hardcore games and it certainly won't be resolved here. Do you quit and live to fight another day, or do you fight to the death, knowing it's impossible? Neither you or I are going to win this argument and I cannot speak for any other hardcore players as to their level of "morality", for want of a better term. All I can say is, I personally do not use Alt-F4 in PoE, but I have used escape macros in previous games to avoid death-by-known-bugs. I don't condone the use of alt-f4, but I'm not about to get up in someones face about using it either. If that's how they want to play, then who really cares? It's not as if they're duping items, exploiting vendor recipes or wall-hacking or something. It's a completely non-game-breaking mechanic that doesn't affect me one bit. If GGG really thinks this is a game-breaking exploit, then they will do as you say and add a logout timer. But I really couldn't care less, because I will still play hardcore and so will everyone I know. And quite honestly, if you play in standard leagues it affects you even less - well, apart from the fact that you don't get their stuff quite as quickly. Regardless of how other people choose to play, your constant accusations are going to put peoples hackles up - which goes a long way towards explaining why you think that hardcore players aren't very nice to you. Well, to be fair, i must admit that i used to watch a streamer that had a reputation of dying often, just to watch him die once. So there he was farming mindlessly in docks looking for his shavrone's when he "brain afk" walked into a bunch of lmp voidbearer dogs. I felt like a kid receiving a new graphic's card on his birthday, cause i was tired of watching him.
The thing that happened next made me wanna puke. The second his Es dropped bellow 25% a macro made him log out. He didn't even realize that his Es was droping or that he walked into a dangerous situation, nevertheless he survived while he shouldn't have. Now, if you experienced something like this and feel as disgusted as me you can just puke and get it over with. That's my advice to you guys. I grow tired of these kind of threads. I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

Playing Hardocre with desync is like building a house of cards on a table taht regularry shakes.
This game doesn't have a challenging mecanics that require skills to handle. If you have access to godly loot and only a half of brain alive, only thig separating you from lvl 100 is time spent infront of monitor. If you don't have access to godly loot, you ballance on the edge and eventually die to desync. I have watched top players's streams - all they do is placing totems and collecting drops. Map by map, hour by hour, day by day. Gameplay is the same in all leagues. |
