Why Standard League is irrelevant, and why that's not good for PoE.

Standard currency donations can be made payable to @Akira_Kurosawa whenever you feel like it has become worthless to you.

Couldn't word it better than Charan did, but here's my two cents.
Standard league is relevant because lots of people still play it. Standard league is relevant because it catters to a certain playstyle. Standard league is relevant because people in it buy mtx, and bring money to GGG. Standard league might be irrelevant in your eyes, but I'm sure everyone can live with that. |

standard league is relevant because i play on it.
End of story. The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG

" I believe you! But answer this one question: If you didn't already have friends playing Standard, and you wanted to create a new non-hardcore character, would you roll it in Standard? Why / Why not? Wash your hands, Exile!

" One reason to do so is that it will have any loot you have in standard to use, but rolling ina new league would not.. But thats only for players making a new character and not ones just starting the game, I admit. IGN

I have one and only L.87 character on Anarchy with his 6L items, but recently I've been playing a new character that is already L.80 on Standard.
The following in short, (1)old toys matters, (2)currency inflation can't take away the fun from character development ,(3)not everyone enjoys doing uncreative things repetitively. When I come up with a build that I am eager to try, I don't want to grind for a month before I can really start that build with all the full linked uniques and rares I need for the progression. You may say I don't really need those things, indeed but, struggling through from 1 to 63 until you can grind merci Docks, and then grind the hell out of it, and then start to have fun, aren't just for everyone when he had already done it over and over before. You know, not everyone is happy at doing repetitive uncreative things. You love to grind for uniques you already have on another league? fine. You love to 4-link an unique item every time you find one? fine. You love to waste time on making similar 5L and 6L items every few months? fine. But when my source of fun isn't from these time-consuming gambling things, but from the character development itself, why shouldn't I skip them? (And I didn't say 1~63 character development isn't fun, but you can have more fun with prepared items.) You won't have my gear. Last edited by NameIsDon#7467 on Sep 7, 2013, 11:04:49 PM

Standard league is relevant because there has to be a place for people with fat fingers and slow reflexes or people who lack hand and eye coordination to play. POE is an equal opportunity company.
Jokes aside.. I quit standard because nothing you get is worth anything. Everything will continue to decrease in value. There is no reward for playing. No risk. No sense of accomplishment. But regardless of my personal feelings and other HC players opinion on standard.. There is still a place for standard. Casual players....there are much more casuals than hardcore players. A lot of the people who post are the hardcore, elite type which are sadly in the gaming world sense... The 1%. Live and let live. Without the casuals who out number us 9:1 (last I heard) the game would die. So be thankful of your carebears. They support the same game you and I love and enjoy just in their own way. Only problem I can see with all these leagues is now that anarchy and onslaught are ending. People are unloading there gear, all maps. Everything. To get max exalts and other currency. Then when the new league starts the standard players play the new league for a few weeks and rake in cross league exalts for probly like 5-10:1 from dudes who made 100 exalts off their gear. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer theory always comes in here. It's as bad as rtm in leagues but legal. No way around it but it's happening.
Why else are all these people selling their top shit. To just trade it all for the next league and league after that over and over to stay rich for the 2-3 months they want to play. |

Considering there are more players in standard than all other leagues combined, I'd say its pretty damn relevant. You want to kill this game in short order, make it all HC or temp leagues. HC isn't fun to the vast majority of players. I don't play arpgs for a cheap thrill, I play it to gather loot and try to perfect my character. Tip toeing though HC only using a hand full of available skills and builds that can survive and spamming f4 is not attractive to me in the least. There's nothing "casual" about standard, its just a different preference in what people want to accomplish. This constant bashing of standard league really needs to stop, its so tired.
