PoE break due to horrendous RNG
" This, too. Skill-based gameplay is best, even in an ARPG. Gear should ideally make content much easier, to the point where you don't have to play skillfully at all, but someone in mediocre gear (no 5L or 6L, e.g.) should be able to do any of the endgame with enough skill and time. D3 got it right with their miniboss packs with random affixes, all of which caused you to play differently depending on the mix, although I would have preferred more of an incentive to farm the end-act bosses, too, a la D2. The only problem with this is that affixes hurt certain builds much more than others, but that's a separate balance issue to talk about. As an aside... has anyone ever actually enjoyed reflect phys/elemental mods on mobs? What does this add to a fight? If you outgear it a bit, you can start/stop DPS to heal and overcome it. If you have insane gear, you can easily 1-shot yourself. If you undergear it, it's still annoying. I don't understand why this passive retaliation mechanic has made it into so many ARPGs, but maybe I'm just not seeing something. " I can see why it is good on large mobs, it forces you to aim your AoE more carefully to slow down the damage rate. Personally I'd go with damaging effects on death instead though. The counterplay to reflect packs is to moderate your AoE use, but you still end up taking all the damage, only over time. Death retaliation effects allow for counterplay by dodging them - the point is that killing everything at once makes it much harder to dodge, but if you only have to dodge a few of them at once, then you can get away with no damage IF you are good enough to dodge them (oh god the whining about mahasattvas...). Have been running around for 2 months with 482IIR 55IIQ, and not a single significant drop. Tonnes of useless uniques, but no exalted, divine, eternal orbs. Never seen a mirror drop. Looks like the end of the line for me, too. No point of logging in any more.

" If you want orbs, double that IIQ at the cost of your IIR. Also, you'd enjoy the game much more if you don't play a boring sporker. |

" As every other ARPG player, I want to find upgrades to my gear. And I don't play a sporker. |

I want to thank everyone for commenting your thoughts on this subject and for staying on subject almost five pages into it. If there is anyway to lock a thread now would probably be a good time GGG / mods / admin :)

" Yes, the game is very punishing and unrewarding apparently it has to do with hardcore gaming but in fact it often makes it a drag. |

I got something around 400iir 100iiq and do play a sporker because my melee duelist just didn't seem to cut it. I actually enjoy playing the sporker and don't find it boring.
What I hate is that (and there's a common misconception that MF character = wealthy) I find garbage trash uniques. I have been looking for a needed shavs to get into maps safely and have found 5 infernal mantles and just chanced another one off a white vestment. That's 6! Driving me nuts. As I try to save to buy one the price goes higher and higher. Trying to trade in chat is slow, tedious and really provides me with zero enjoyment or sense of fulfillment. Level 84 from barely touching any maps (chaos = instakill) just running lunaris. Rerolled a couple characters but come back to this one as I enjoy it and I want to not leave it unfulfilled. 1 item and it will open up a 'new' experience to being able to play maps and not mindlessly run lunaris. Majority of comments are like:
"Omfg, I am running docks with my dual-sporker for two weeks and still no shavs. Stupid RNG does not allow me to proceed content!" I see you all want shavs with no efford. There is no free shavs after reaching 62 lvl. I know you want end-game gear and faceroll everything after two weeks. But you won't get it. Other funniest complains were: "5 ex and 5 eternal and I still CAN'T roll perfect weapon!" "Used 2k fuses and still no 6L!" (Chance is around 1/1000, so 2k is not-bad) "Got 9001x Infernal Mantle and still no Shavs!" (Rolls are independent) "I got so many crap uniques, and none good ones!" (==||==) ------------------------- How long do you want for casual player to get Shavs? A week? A month? It actually takes two month for a player that plays 2h/day to earn enough currency to get them doing Normal Merv runs - COUNTING only rares for alternations recipe - WITHOUT andivarius, and WITHOUT any unique drops! Imho a player that plays 2h a day shouldn't be able to touch shavs EVER http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/73928 <-- [Newbie Friendly] Marauder Melee Build IGN: NinjaArabStrategist Last edited by NinjaArabStrategist#0191 on Sep 10, 2013, 2:55:26 AM

Come back in 6 weeks or so when 1.0 is released. You'll have new content and lord knows what else.
It's OK to take a break, GGG won't come to your house and kill you. I'm honestly not sure how anyone can play one game exclusively for a prolonged period of time without getting bored. Even going to another ARPG (hell even BL2) would drive me crazy. Pickup a good FPS and have some fun with it. |
