Tired of farming wisdom scrolls?
Hmm, im still suprised that this could be a problem, my main income is from filling my bag with magic/rare items every run, IDing them and selling for alts. And I still havnt run out of them. Additionaly they are so cheap that u can just buy a tab full of them for barely anything.
ID'ing also makes the item potentially worth more when vendoring, which explains why scrolls shouldn't be unlimited. If you are ID'ing every single item you come across, you shouldn't be confused or suprised that your running out, a tiny bit of management should exist imo. The "which item do i ID... the bow or quiver?" situation is a good one, it gives the player a choice/dilemna. |

" Do you have a way of being in the town, selling, and in the field, killing, at the same time? Torchlight had that pet thing that would go to town and sell things for you, but I wasn't really a fan of that. " Yes... it is... i never asked for a change in droprate. In fact, if you'd only get them from drops and you'd really have to think about what you id, i'd love that. " From where?. The vendor rates don't seem to be sustainable and I have no desire to trade with other players until it's properly implemented in game. " Except they are... you can just go to Normal, Act I and farm for white items. You could consider their drop rate to be at least 1 for every 5 white items. The only annoying thing is that you have to carry those items to town. It's different than farming for other stuff because you have a fixed work/reward ratio. It's like a job. For everything else, you just go out killing... you might find what you're looking for, you might not. But wisdom scrolls are all around you. " Except there is no dilemma: -you will certainly id everything you might use, but what you might use gets scarcer the better your equipment gets. I would probably only care to id about 1% of what i find. -for all other items there's no real choice... the only reason to id them is to get better rewards when you sell them... but there's no way to tell what items will yield better rewards... there's no difference between the rewards you could get for a driftwood club compared to let's say a royal bow. So if you don't have enough scrolls for them, you'll just id some at random. No dilemma, no choosing, no thinking. -Or you simply id everything And, so far, the only economically viable way to get enough scrolls to id everything that I find to haul whites into town. Again, this was no problem in the early game. Because of the droprates I would only need to come back to town 2 or 3 times per area and with plenty of small whites to sell. Now, I do 4-5 runs just for blues... Also, it can't be said that scrolls are scarce or at least hard to get. You get the same 1/5 of a scroll for every white item no matter where you farm. It's just a pain when playing like you normally do doesn't yield enough of them. To compare, in a descent race, scrolls are rare and valuable and you'll only use them on items that might improve your gear. And it's fun to have them that way. But in the regular game there's no such feeling beyond maybe the first few areas. |

" You are incorrectly assuming that you know nothing about an item before identifying it. You actually know quite a bit- base item type, sockets, rarity, etc. The point that so many people in this topic are trying to get you to understand is that these are supposed to be factors in your decisions. Stubbornly, you are repeating the refrain that there is no decision because you have not yet recognized what that decision is. I'll show you an analysis to demonstrate how much more there is to it. Ways to decide which items to bring to town: 1) Is there a direct vendor recipe for the item? Chromatic Orb, 20% quality, etc. 2) How rare is it? Rarer items sell for more, ID or UNID 3) How big is it? Larger items take more space 4) How much quality? For the 40% quality recipes Things you may want to maximize during your limited time playing the game: 1) Fusing Orbs? Then ID everything because that is going to get you fusing orbs the quickest 2) Experience, high level currency, or gear upgrades? You want to maximize time fighting monsters so minimize trips to town. Don't pick up things that aren't going to sell for much (blues, whites, etc.) 3) Chaos Orbs (assuming level 60)? You only want rare items. Identification is not mandatory. 4) Chromatics, Scraps, Whetstones, Baubles, etc? Collect the corresponding vendor recipes. Magic items are not a component. 5) Your goals can change! If you have lots of extra ID scrolls maybe you prioritize Fusing Orbs higher in order to get rid of the ID scrolls. Once you run out, you can prioritize something else until you have an excess of ID scrolls again. Ways to decide which items to identify: 1) Does IDing this item align with my goal? 2) How much is it likely to be worth? Each item types has different odds of giving Alchemy Shards, and different average Alteration shards. Example: Don't ID flasks because are usually worth less after identification than before (UNID worth 2 shards, ID usually worth 1 fragment, not to mention the loss of a wisdom scroll). 3) How useful is the item likely to be? An item with a good socket arrangement is likely to be better than a similar item that has a bad socket arrangement. If your character only uses Swords then don't waste ID scrolls on wands. So on and so forth. 4) If you are just IDing because it is more efficient to use ID scrolls on UNID items than it is to progress ID scroll through vendor trades, then recognize that the vendor trades are a trap. Consider what else may be a trap. Perhaps farming ID scrolls just to progress them more efficiently than the vendor trade progression is another trap. "Pickup everything, identify everything" is one strategy. There are other strategies available to you. Having these different strategies is one of the things that add depth to the game. If you don't like IDing everything and farming wisdom scrolls to do it, then try something else. What you put in your pack and what you do with it is not a task, it is a choice. |

" And you are incorrectly assuming that I don't know all the random basic stuff you insist on throwing my way. I only meant between two items of the same rarity and with no other notable features, such as an useful socket configuration or quality. " Of course you have choices in how you play the game... hell... I could be trying to run through it with no weapons or armor. My only "concern" is that the game offers a un-fun mechanic for one of it's most common actions. It's more or less like giving you a wisdom scroll for running around in a circle for 2 minutes. And I think it could use some more work. I can understand that others, perhaps most, do not see this as a problem. It's the same as someone playing a melee build would not have the same issues as someone playing a ranged build, and, when faced with the latters point of view, their reply would be "Well you can just go melee". Also... note that this is the "suggestions" section and I haven't posted a complaint. There's really no point in anyone explaining to me how I can play the game without this. The game can indeed be played without any of the suggestions in this sections. And i will keep playing it, with this or not, unless they screw it up badly... or I get bored with it.. or I no longer have a decent internet connection...you get the point :P But I still think this is a good idea :D |

I gave up on picking bare white items by lvl20 on my first character. Not worth the hassle at all.
Then I got into the "id all, run out of wisdoms, sell portals and transmutations, only id rares until a certain amount of wisdoms. Rinse and repeat." routine. After a certain amount of IIR (not really high), it's unsustainable. Then I got the idea of getting a Perandus Signet. Bit expensive, but worth it. Now every time that I run out of wisdoms, I equip it and do some runs getting around 10 wisdoms each (even after id'ing rares). My experience with trading is that using poe.xyz buyout and online only filters eases trading to a very manageable level. But maybe I'm just been lucky and most of the time it's been gems. |
