And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit - The Tick

I very rarely see people mention Ron Jarzombek in these sort of discussions (generally metal stuff though), which I've always found a bit odd.

Forgot to link some samples, instrumental stuff.

Blotted Science, tech metal:

Gordian Knot, prog rock/fusiony stuff:

Spastic Ink, err okay:

Blotted Science is a little to speed/shredded for me.
I was watching another video where he was showing his cord progressions and I think I know where the term tech metal comes from now.

The second song from Gordian Knot is something I can get into.

Spastic Ink.
WTF did I just see? :)

I wonder if he is blind. I have never seen him without sunglasses.

Also good choices of songs.

Lol I remember always seeing fights as to who was better. Vai or Satriani.

Nope his not blind, and yeah the whole vai vs satriani thing is tiring. One plays one thing one plays another and since vai was a student of satrianis i dont think the competion stands. My POV anyway. :)

Lol Iommi and Segovia in the same list. Who would have ever thought of that. :)

Sorry to hear about your finger. And thanks for the tidbit about Iommi. I use to listen to Black Sabbath when I was in high school. The closet to Segovia I've listen to is Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin and only Paco De Lucia when playing in a duo or trio.

I went with Segovia because he plays all the classical stuff I used to really love on the guitar. Stuff like Bach, Luys de Narvaez, Tarrega, Chopin. I spent an entire summer transcribing and learning Bach's BWV 803 Chromatic Fantasia once, and another entire summer learning Paganini's 5th Caprice in A minor. I never really cared for Di Meola or Mclaughlin, or Jazz in general, and I'm pretty picky about my classical as well. I find jazz TOO unsettling as it can go soo long without resolving to the root. I love Minor Blues, and Harmonic/Hungarian Minor classical. For instance from the 4 seasons, I'm very passionate about Winter but not a fan of spring or autumn at all.

Some fun facts about Iommi, he lost his two halves to a bandsaw at the factory job he worked. That's actually why Sabbath had their "dark" sound. He used 2 thimbles that he crafted into tips, but to be able to exert enough pressure on the strings, he had to tune down. His playing becomes far more awe inspiring when you realize he can't actually feel most of the notes he is playing.

Another one who has not been mentioned in this thread: Ry Cooder (it's him playing Ralph Macchio's parts in Crossroads when he takes on Steve Vai.)

But yea, I understand what you mean when some projects just go on forever. On the flip side of that though, sometimes you get to hear each instruments solo/interpretation.
