Who are your guitar heroes and why?

Shawn Lane
Guthrie Govan
Allan Holdsworth

All have incredible technical skill but unique takes on jazz fusion guitar style and composition. Shawn Lane RIP.

Marty Friedman because Rust In Peace.

Speed, thrash and death metal is something I really do not listen to often. But I found some videos of Marty teaching some techniques. I have to say, I'm impressed by his playing style.

I've spent most of the day listening to Kurt Rosenwinkel and the Yellowjackets first album. After all these years, Imperial Strut is still one of my favorite songs.

It's pretty awesome yea. Very corny but in the nice 80'ies style :P

Also very much likes Chick Corea Electric Band:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSJYlfHjrTE With Carlos Rios.

It's very awesome.

Ok, I just finished listening to this. I was laughing all the time.
Interesting to see he did this by himself. The only problem I had with this as with a lot of metal music is trying to figure out what the hell they are saying in that throat/scream voice. Thank God there are places with lyrics.

BTW You're both Nerds.

I very rarely see people mention Ron Jarzombek in these sort of discussions (generally metal stuff though), which I've always found a bit odd.

Forgot to link some samples, instrumental stuff.

Gordian Knot, prog rock/fusiony stuff:

Andres Segovia
***Tony Iommi***

Tony only became a hero of mine recently, because he wrote and played all that Sabbath stuff while missing half of his index and middle finger. I lost most of my frethand index finger in a work accident about 10 months ago. That was the end of my Segovia days.

Lol Iommi and Segovia in the same list. Who would have ever thought of that. :)

Sorry to hear about your finger. And thanks for the tidbit about Iommi. I use to listen to Black Sabbath when I was in high school. The closet to Segovia I've listen to is Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin and only Paco De Lucia when playing in a duo or trio.

Randy Rhoads, is my all-time favorite, and idol. He was and is the best. RIP

Then there's an underrated, not-well known Eddie Hazel from Funkadelic, he was the next Hendrix for me. He'll make you cry. Also RIP

There's alot more though, I just will never forget these guys.

Great choices. When Ozzy left sabbath and started recording on his own, I really don't think he would have made it without Randy.

Most people only know Eddie because of Maggot Brain but listen to Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lGwfhE3CaQ Talk about some funky acid rock.
