Who are your guitar heroes and why?
My top 4 currently are:
1. Pat Metheny Dubbed the musicians musician for a reason. I really like how he is fluid with his playing. It seems like his fingers never stop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPOd7m0Z51g Excellent by himself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-ktxM85AUA or with his band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4HQEV4apHc 2. John Scofield Where I wouuld call Pat fluid but busy, I would call John a diamond with jagged edges. This song really shows the difference in play styles and if your an Audiophile, I would highly recommned the complete album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcbEXret0YQ This reminds of the 60's nightclubs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WPGdjZr8PI Just pure blues with some fun mixed in https://myspace.com/officialjohnscofield/music/song/deadzy-179036-188578 3. Al Dimeola is just a unique player. I remember having fights with a friend of mine as to who was a better player, Al or Carlos Santana. Some of his earlier stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPlmxRAG0Ww, Tango music with his group http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ4WlpCxdzg, and taking something old and giving it new life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufn7HxRKSBs 4. Eric Gales many believe could be the next Jimi Hendrix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1YPUTddvI4. I don't think I would have to explain why I like him after this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISwgICW6LgE. In his own words at the end... WOW Who do you like and why? And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit - The Tick

Being a bassist (a shitty one, but a bassist nonetheless, hehe):
![]() Quite possibly the best bass guitar player ever to grace popular music. |

SRV.
YNGWIE!!! Andres Segovia ***Tony Iommi*** Tony only became a hero of mine recently, because he wrote and played all that Sabbath stuff while missing half of his index and middle finger. I lost most of my frethand index finger in a work accident about 10 months ago. That was the end of my Segovia days. Anarchy/Onslaught T shirt

Steve Vai because while others play the guitar he uses it as a key to unlock the next level.
For those who dont believe me here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KUSkGeaUPU Enjoy :) "May those who accept their fate be granted happiness.

I like the way how you wrote the topic title. On many guitar forums I usually read topics like "Who is the best guitar player out of these 2" which is kinda disturbing.
There is not only a huge difference between opinions, also the style and intentions people play for are different. For example, Jimmy Hendrix was an innovative player. He did things on his guitar which were beyond imagination at that time in the evolution of guitar music. He was also an amazing songwriter. However, it would be totally wrong to call Hendrix the most skilled and all round guitar player of all times. There is also a huge difference between the styles people play. Metal and rock usually aim for catchy melodies, certain emotions that are easy to understand by most people. Jazz on the other hand is more about improvising your motives through chord progressions that are way more complex than 3-4 chords you will hear in a rock song. In my opinion a perfect choice for being my guitar hero would be Scott Henderson. He just has the total package as a musician. Not only can he deal with the most complex chord progressions out there (like the jazz standard "Giant Steps" for example), he is also extremely skilled, accurate, he has his own style and emotion in the music he plays. Scott Henderson is also a very good teacher. (I believe at GIT in Boston) I saw one of his instructional videos in the past in which he told his viewers to keep things simple. He explained the way he made a solo, how to start from a pattern like "Jingle Bells", and play around with different notes while keeping the same rhythm, or changing the rhythm while keeping the same notes. That is one of the most inspiring things I have ever learned in my life. And the cool thing about that is that Scott is a master in doing so himself. One of my favorite songs of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q5BkubPGuY Last edited by Insert_Pixels#0380 on Aug 8, 2013, 2:46:02 PM

" I've spent most of the day listening to Kurt Rosenwinkel and the Yellowjackets first album. After all these years, Imperial Strut is still one of my favorite songs. And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit - The Tick
