Skip "Tutorial" when playing Hardcore
"Fair enough. Duly noted. |

" Neither. And keep personal attacks off forums. You are suggesting to remove certain part of HC gaming from HC league, I think my demonstration showed why do I disagree. I play in hc, I play in default too. When I don't feel like having hard times surviving, I just go default and relax. When I want challenge and more intense thrill of the fight, I go HC. Currently when playing HC you fear of death and you know you would get into the water and on the shore as a new exile if you died. It feels exactly what I like at this moment, I don't want them to take this away from the game. ✠ ✠

As far as mandatory tutorials go, Twilight Strand is pretty forgiving. You can meander around and kill stuff, get to level 2.5, or you can zip to Hillock in no time, beat his arse down, get some loot and enter town with almost no experience at all.
My standard for 'bad tutorial' comes with the love-it-or-hate-it Kingdoms of Amalur, which had such a terrible tutorial that I almost quit the game before making it through it. You COULD skip it on subsequent playthroughs but ironically in doing so missed out on some decent loot. Twilight Strand is less a tutorial (for better or worse) and more of a prologue, the true start to the journey. Just dumping characters in the encampment and relying on npc interaction to describe the set-up would be insufficient, but it's not so overbearing that skipping it would enhance your play experience significantly. Besides, Hillock has been known to give some pretty good loot. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

"I suggested absolutely no such thing. I only said to allow players the option to skip the tutorial stage because having to repeat it when you lose is less punishing and more simply tedious, especially since there's no co-op built within it and the loot is generally fixed, making you feel like you're just replaying the worst aspect of the entire game repeatedly. Mandatory tutorial stages are not the backbone of hardcore mode. As for attacking, you're the one who proverbially put words in my mouth (I never said anything along the lines, even remotely, on keeping any of your old loot or skipping leveling on the new character as you implied) and sarcastically added to it to make me look like a moron on the forums rather than simply disagreeing, as ongZ did. If anybody here's doing the attacking, it's you. Consider my last statement a defense tactic. So at least hold your fire before declaring a truce. "Looking at it that way makes more sense, I suppose. But it still feels highly repetitive for an otherwise randomly generated game, though that's my opinion. |

" If you feel like a moron after reading my reaction, I'm sorry. I could just say 'I don't like it' but I felt like showing why. That's what I do on forums, explain how I feel about the game and why and the same goes for suggestions, because I think it is more valuable to say why I don't like something than just stating that I don't like it. ✠ ✠

"There are exactly two fixed loot pieces in the twilight strand - the starting weapon and the starting skill gem dropped by the zombie. Everything else is random. | |
Well, I guess I do have a hard time understanding while this first part is worse/not as worth spending time on compared to other early parts of the game, that makes you want to skip it. I guess it's the fact that you don't yet have a "home base/town" to work out of just yet?

On the other hand, I think that cruel, ruthless and merciless twilight strand should be completely removed and the player just receive the hillock kill rewards upon arriving in the shore encampment. You've just faced a badass boss and received no official reward for it.
Also, where's the narrative logic in appearing on the beach again? Twilight Strand is the single-player introduction to Wraeclast, the immediate post-overboard scene. It has no real place in subsequent play-throughs on the same character. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

But you are also killing already dead monsters and getting already received rewards and getting tapped on your back for it. The inconsistency seems to be tied with multiple difficulties. It wouldn't hurt to remove cruel strand but it doesn't hurt to have it either, in my opinion.
