[OSX] Unofficial Path of Exile port - 30/12/2018 status update

@Dark0mens

You can check your Mac specifications in top left corner -> About this Mac -> More info... (And -> System report for more details).

You can monitor your Mac's temperatures for example with iStat Menus.

While I'm not fully knowledgeable how to solve the problems you are experiencing, I would suggest that you try to add the "-gc 1" line in your wrapper. Here's how:

1) Right-click PoE.app and Show Package Contents
2) Then open Wineskin.app inside the wrapper
3) Select Advanced
4) In Advanced you can see EXE Flags field
5) Type "-gc 1" in that field without the quotations
6) Close Wineskin.app and start the game

Yep.. game is still pretty unplayable. Every time an enemy touches me my fps drops to 1 until I die, I just can't respond. I'm using a late model 2011 13" macbook pro, I'm kind of surprised I'm having this problem.

That sure sounds strange. I think your computer specs should be adequate for running the game quite well...

Have you tried changing video settings in-game? Turn off Shadows, Anti-aliasing, Post-processing for example. Also try turning on VSync for testing. What sort of Frames per second do you get while idling in town? Fn+F1 to check FPS

EDIT terrible typo

Yep, I have all the graphic options at the lowest possible setting, VSync is on, no shadows, no AA, medium texture quality, trilinear filtering, no post processing. I'm using it in windowed mode at 1024x640 resolution. My machine has 8GB of RAM too which makes it even more surprising.
When I first join the game and I'm in town, the fps seems to hover around 20, but drops to ~5 when a new character runs across the screen for the first time. The fps also drops as new parts of town come on screen. After a couple of minutes it seems to stabilize around 23 fps. There are only 4 or 5 people in town right now.

I noticed when using xQuartz for the server that when I close the game the audio doesn't stop sometimes and the wine processes are still running. shutting my computer down fixes it, but it would be nice to find a better solution to this :/

EDIT:
Now I'me getting crashes, last run log in spoiler tag

What does the "-gc1" command actually do? Thanks for how to find my information, as I stated earlier in this thread I haven't used a mac in 20 years. After playing with Windows 8 and having it completely crash on me 3 times at the store on different laptops I decided to go with a Mac and see how it is since I hear great things about them.

I don't believe it's a temperature issue it was just an observation that the laptop was a little warm after playing especially compared to my old ASUS which expels so much heat I use it as a portable mini space heater. Currently have a rigged setup of a thin aluminum sheet of metal with an ice pack below it and the laptop suspended above the cold metal to cool it off. Redneck ice cooling ftw.

I use a program called SMC fan control to turn up the fan speed and it is usually fine. the winebundle was working fine except for the game not shutting down properly (so I fiddled with it and broke it some how XD) maybe I should just re-download it XD

I added the "-gc 1" at the end of the executable and now I keep getting the Wine pop up whenever I click on the PoE icon....I am so lost on this mac it's half the fun.

*disregard, I am an idiot. Completely overlooked the exe flags field and put it at the end of the executable like you'd do in windows when adding command options to an exe. herp a derp.

*Edit: yeah adding -gc 1 didn't do anything to fix the invisible monkeys nor did it fix the display of auras and curses. Thanks for trying though. Wish GGG would make an official Mac client now :(

-gc 1 is known to help with graphical problems like glitching. Too bad it didn't help with this, it was maybe a bit optimistic anyway. I can't really find any reports from Wine users about invisible monsters or effects, so solving this isn't that obvious.

Neither did I believe it was a heat issue but it's good to know that you have taken care of cooling. Whether you are serious or not, that actually made me chuckle :)

At the moment I can't say more about the issues you are having. I have to keep looking around. There is always the option to delete and fully reinstall Path of Exile but that is a bit drastic.

I too have noticed that Wine processes go on after exiting the game. But I have never experienced that audio issue you described.

You can check what is going on in Activity Monitor and there you can also Force quit any processes.
Weird. I am using a new MacBook pro, released in July of this year I believe, with 2.6ghz i7, 8GB ddr3 1600mhz(I believe as I am writing this from my phone while on the road and no I am not driving), 750GB HD, with the Nvidia 650m(don't remember mem size) and the Intel hd4000. Also yes I checked and the nvidia is the.correct card running when I am gaming. I will probably just try the reinstall when I get back home tomorrow. Also going to install windows 7 after so I will install it on that normally as well. I thought maybe it might be an nvidia driver issue but you can't manually update the driver from.nvidias website for Mac OS.

** Yes I was serious about my improvised cooling mechanism. It was working well until my wife needed the cookie sheet back to bake with. And I feel I should clarify the use of the term "suspended". I am not hanging my laptop from the fueling or a.cherry picker but rather had another two blocks on top of the aluminum sheet and had the laptop on top of that. The ice cools the metal which then cools the air above it which in turn cools the laptop and keeps condensation off it.

Please help me with this, I cannot find any info on it at all.

After the client 'checks resources' an error pops up saying - "Tags_Row": The format of a game data file cannot be read, is it out of date?

I have found zero info regarding this message and I really could use some advice (I'm not super savvy with this type of stuff)

Thanks a lot!
