Allowing full respecs would be a total abandonment of the old-school ARPG principles and design philosophies that drew so many of us to this game in the first place.

It would be a complete about face by GGG and since many of us have come to know GGG as a principled designer interested in making great games first and foremost, I expect this will never happen.

With all due respect to those asking for this, if it is such a big deal for you, then honestly and sincerely, PoE is not the game for you.

I posted this elsewhere, it is a more accurate calculation of the cost of a respec.

Or you could buy 'em for orbs of chance.

Well strictly speaking, you buy orbs of scouring from orbs of chance.

So..
According to http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/102578 there are 120 skill points available in the game in total.

So say you want a full respec.

8 orbs of chance buys 2 orbs of scouring
2 orbs of chance buys 1 orb of regret.

For for a full respec you'd need to farm 960 orbs of chance.

Now.

There are three quests that grant 2 respec points, for a total of 6 per difficulty.
So you can get 18 respec points this way.
This means a full respec (assuming you're at level 100) will cost you 942 orbs of chance.

In general you'll need (YouLevel*8)-18 orbs of chance for a respec. Assuming you've completed all difficulties. After you've used the 18 quest respec points you'll need (YouLevel*8) orbs of chance for a respec.

Definitions:
RQD : Respec Quests Done, this includes returning the two statues in Act3
RQD2 : Respec Quests Done, This does not include returning the statues.
NoDC : Number of Difficulties Completed
NoSR : Number of Statues Returned

Or more generally: (YouLevel*8)-(2*RQD*NoDC)
Even more generally since the Act3 respec quest rewards you a point for each statue returned.
(YouLevel*8)-(2*RQD2*NoDC+NoSR)
Where NoSR is a number between 1 and 6. (2 statues available per difficulty)

Yes, it does. Some sort of tutorial would be nice. Not an extensive one, but something more than, "Here is a skill gem. Put it on your weapon and go kill shit."
