PoE vs Diablo 2 - Why D2 is still better
" I really love the casual pvp in D2. Just running out duelling a little, chatting with those ingame, kick their ass, show off gear - have fun. I don't really like the arena-thing. Feels too impersonal. Danskere: PM mig, hvis I har brug for en guild.

d2 IMO is 'better' overall (although POE isn't far behind) for a few reasons, one of them being it was much much easier to get a well geared character in d2 as opposed to PoE. top end items that are *needed* for certain specs to continue on (oh you want to play RF end-game? YOU HAVE to buy shavs if you want to level anywhere but lunaris 3 and docks). that could have been because of the bots, but it doesn't really matter, it helped out more casual players because things were a lot cheaper. any noob could make a sorc, and get a full tal set and have decent MF and go do meph/andy runs to find shit. and you can clear the game with just a full tals set alone. very few chars here can do everything alone and if they can, they are wearing 20+exalts worth of shit, which is VERY hard for the average person to get.

" Oh yea, that was so awesome. I once in hardcore made a thorns-pala. I used to just run around waiting for someone to pk me, and BAM. So fun. I loved softcore pvp even more. Kill a guy, and naked kill him afterward (very bad mannered, but still fun as hell). Actually the naked kill part is very fun, even Chris did it in a show off video for cut-throat "and here I'm killing a guy without gear.. just because it's fun" if I recall correctly :D Danskere: PM mig, hvis I har brug for en guild.

@OP
In my opinion your arguments do not validate your statement at all. They are very weak. if you plan a built in PoE that is higher lvl than what you can actually achieve in game, it is your fault. If you want to have a perfect built but fail to plan and execute it, it is once again your fault. You can not blame the game for it. You can not generally claim that leveling is no core aspect of the genre and request that things should get changed just cause you want your new champion to be lvl 85 in 2 hours. To the uniques: I seriously liked them even in classic d2. Eisblinker was awesome. Stone of Jordan. Even stuff like goldskin was useful. Isenharts?... there were more than enough crappy items in d2 and blizzard did not bother to change them at all. Imho PoE is not worse than D2 when it comes to the unique item design. There are useless ones, there are good ones. Just that GGG is improving the game much much faster than blizzard ever did. I mean there are not even set items in PoE yet. And still it can keep up to d2 when it comes to item variety. I played d2 classic + lod for years on my own. Missed the release edition, started playing it online after first patch was released. Still remembering the first race to 99 between gerbarb, rusbarb and that french paladin that surrendered at lvl 96 or whatever. Good times. But seriously will never play it again. Already seen every aspect of the game. It actually is not THAT big. Also the chat is ruined by spambots. Imho there is just no point in playing it anymore. Just keep the good memories and get over it imho... Warbands IGN: Theldurin Last edited by Kirase#2598 on Jul 28, 2013, 5:32:53 AM

I agree with the entirety of this post.. Uniques in Path of Exile feel absolutely useless, and leveling feels incredibly dull after a character or two.
Path of exile seemed better on the surface, but i only played for about 2 months total, where as Diablo 2 kept me hooked for years and years, and draws me back into it to this day. I'm kind of done with path of exile, just waiting for more exciting content. |

I agree on a lot of these points OP. I still mostly play Diablo 2 because it's actually enjoyable. It's a game. Poe always has to be a serious undertaking, which is fun for half an hour a day or 2-3 hours every weekend with friends, but anything more just takes too much out of a person to still be considered a game.
But again, we really have to respect GGG's wishes for this. They want a tiny hardcore playerbase and a punishing game that only rewards massive, massive playtime. Just try and do what I do, for fun play Diablo 2 and once a week for a few hours or once every other day invest an hour in POE. Best of both worlds. :) Vote +1 to change Path of Exile to Path of Nerfs.
We hate to say, but ProjectPT was right. |

" I kind of agree with you. There is too much focus on the "hardcore" feel in this game. Diablo 2 had much more focus on just being fun at letting people do what they wanted. But it is still far to early to say anything about PoE on that regard, as it is still in beta. Danskere: PM mig, hvis I har brug for en guild.

Well, like 2 week befoire the release of D3, I played some D2, I installed the game from the CD and made NO UPDATES AT ALL.
Guess what, the XP is more than terrible and you don't loot anything, I think in act III I found a total of 3 gold or something. Then I patched the game and guess what, everything was casuali-... errr, I meant easy >_> So I guess you are comparing a game in BETA with a game after YEARS of updates. Which is absolutly retarded. Also, D1 > D2. |

Although I completely agree with your points, OP, I don't agree with your conclusion. There are many aspects of PoE, that make it much better game than D2. Nothing unusual with that, considering the time that has passed since D2's release.
Leveling and progressing in PoE is boring. Not as boring as in D3, but boring still. After the few re-rolls, seeing another Solaris is painful. You just want to test your endgame build, but you are leveling with Cleave or whatever, because it is more time efficient. Playing whole game, 3 times for each character and saying you enjoy it - kudos to the people who do. I don't mind grinding leveling zones, don't mind grinding for gear, but replaying the whole game so many times and still finding it fresh - PoE is not that good. Great game, best in genre so far, only game I play at the moment etc. Still, needlessly old fashioned in forced replaying of very limited content. Content that is great in first few runs, but very tedious ever after. The way D2 handled this was better, would improve PoE a lot, but it still doesn't make D2 better game, just very smart one and very far seeing. These games are stats and loot - you have none on lower levels, progressing through game for Xth time. Players who like this - more power to them. |

" I see what you did there. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
