Performance Conclusion = CPU/RAM more dependant > GPU

A mobile vid card is much weaker than the standard of equivalent model.

Also, there is a [very] large difference between the core 2 series and the i series. You are jumping up an entire architecture, not just optimization (which is typically how they rotate releases). I went from a Q6600 in my old desktop to an i7 in this one, both of which are quad cores of what should be decent enough speeds. I have 0 lag regardless of the party now.

Edit: GFX card stayed the same.

On huge problem I see is that your desktop is running 32-bit windows. This limits the address space available to your OS. POE loves memory, 2-3 gig ram will be used by one client instance if it is there. With windows and other background applications loaded you would probabl;y only have 1.5 gig max free memory. Installing more ram will not help unless you get windows 64bit, plus you cannot run POE on high unless you have 64 bit windows. The textures are larger than the address space and it will crash.
Side note; if you have 12+ gig of ram, making a 6-8GB ramdisk and putting your client into that ramdisk will result in instant loading and flawless performance. Just remember that with a ramdisk, when you turn off your pc, the drive losses everything. So keep a copy on your HDD.
when the game first entered open beta they told us it wasn't fully optimized. it runs fine on some lower end spec and drops frames on even some very high end rigs.

they're working on it slowly and some progress has been made - things used to be a lot worse. hopefully it will continue to improve.

at one point i was playing on a laptop with integrated graphics and things were steadily getting worse, not better.

ggg should _not_ be trying to optimize for low end hardware but it would also be annoying if we all have to have 8GB and a 2GB graphics card.

T2 ran _flawlessly_ on my laptop and it had a lot going on.

My guess is that GGG is using a high level tool set to implement the graphics, understandably, and there's probably a lot of inefficiency, and maybe even a bug or two, in it.

So I think the main issue with my setup is my C2D CPU then.
I heard there is a problem with ATI cards. It had something to do with the sound. Whenever there are a lot of different sound effects it causes the graphics card to choke.
So my laptop has the following specs

8GB Ram

AMD A8-6410 APU, 2000MHz, 4 cernels

Primary Adapter:

AMD Radeon(TM) R5 Graphics - 1024 MB

Secondary Adapter:

AMD Radeon HD 8500M - 2048 MB

it runs very smooth unless i get to merciless when larger packs of monster appear for example out of strongboxes. Ball lightning + curse on hit made it worse - screen freezing completely.

Interestingly it doesnt even matter if I play around with Graphic options.
Ram shouldnt be the problem here but the CPU / Video card is?

idk but thing is clear i cant play hardcore with it =(

interesting - maybe using an external soundcard would help...

a few quick points,

the 4870 is an older card, but still very strong...
energy inefficient but filled with transistors.

beats the hell out of integrated graphics... intel
has a system and has had a system for a while, where
their integrated graphics processor uses system ram
and gets assistance from the cpu which increases the
cpu burden of poe (or anything else)

furthermore laptops need to be plugged in, on max power use
mode, just in case it wants to underclock for battery life.
Usually there will be a threshold where the GPU becomes more influent then the CPU...

If you have a poor CPU, the GPU doesnt really matter at all.
