Performance Conclusion = CPU/RAM more dependant > GPU
After installing PoE on my laptop an hour ago, here's my conclusion
Both with minimum graphical settings My DESKTOP Specs: Core 2 Duo E7500 @3 GHz 3 GB of Ram ATI/AMD 4870 512 RAM Windows 7 32-bit Crazy Lag Spikes everytime I lightning strike/ summon skeletons. My LAPTOP Specs: i3 2350 @2.3 GHz 4 GB of Ram INTEL HD 3000 (integrated piece of garbage) Windows 7 64-bit Much less Lag spikes compared to my laptop. |

put 64 bit windows on your desktop computer. Add another stick of ram for crying out loud.

64 bit will change nothing
Why you should try Harcore http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/209310/page/1

Well this post is to conclude that GPU isn't the main problem with the lag spikes. It has to be something else.

I'm just going to go ahead and say, from a slightly (and I say slightly) educated perspective, people think that CPU/RAM will typically be the bottleneck in gaming, but nowadays, it is almost always the GPU.
Getting 8 Gigs of RAM is a joke nowadays, and even that much is pretty useless (unless you do some crafty things where you load entire game files into RAM in order to make loading sections of the game instantaneous, tried it with WoW a long time ago, it was nice). Processors are pretty advanced as well, utilizing multicore/multithreading processes which are ever more efficient (cheap i5 processors are great for any application, even i3's in some cases). But, what's the one thing that games focus on the most? The graphics, of course, and even a lot of the on screen action is processed by the GPU. Now, PoE maybe be special, but I can tell you for sure when you are in a full party, granted all the crazy spells (especially lightning strike), summons, etc, it makes for a crazy mess. Maybe it lies in the way they implemented the particle effects, who knows. Sometimes when designing graphics you can take shortcuts, cutting down polygons and/or particle textures while still maintaining a high polished finish. On the flip side, you can use way too many of said textures in something relatively simple, overtaxing your computer. A real answer would require someone more knowledgeable than myself though. Your test concluded it was NOT in fact the GPU that was the problem. Your final statement indicates that the Desktop was in fact better. That would indicate the opposite conclusion that you drew, unless you just worded it poorly. |

No data here to support any conclusion but that one of your computers is worse than the other for PoE.
Poor ole' scientific method... |

i use a laptop where games usually run pretty good but i dont understand the fps drops in POE
my speccs are i7-2630QM 2GHz Nvidia Geforce GT 540M 8 Gig Ram Windows 7 64 bit even when i run everything on low as possible i have fps drops in map partys. i guess for some reason PoE seem to have a very bad laptop performance Last edited by zzang#1847 on Jun 17, 2013, 5:15:49 PM

i5 3570k 3.4Ghz (not OC)
8gb gskill 1333mhz Asus P8Z77V-LE motherboard MSI GTX 660Ti Twin Frozr Power Edition 2GB 1920x1080 resolution ASUS VG278H 27IN @ 120hz Everything maxed out. Played with 3 other friends. No lag at all. Is this the max we can be in a party ? (4) |

" i think the max is 6 but the machine you posted is it a laptop or a tower? because i rarely heard tower users complain about fps drops |

" Oops, its a tower not a laptop sorry lol Im on Win7 Pro 64bit btw. So it seems that it struggle only on laptop ? I might try it on my crappy Dell Inspiron lol |
