As per usual, mkdamage writes large block sentences that contain nothing but keywords and insults dressed as literature, with maybe one interesting and relevant sentence.
You make some good points Charan, as usual I tend to agree with them. I only take issue with Tabula Rasa being a fall-back option. It's a fun Unique, but it's not really a replacement for a specific build - my current build, for example, relies solely on the Chestpiece for it's primary defensive stat. Further, on similar discussions elsewhere, the same people who praise content denial claim one shouldn't base builds around being 'privileged' to 'find' a Unique (though, of course, in a different post, they'll claim it's 'easy' to buy them anyway...). But on the topic of the utterly inane use of the word 'privilege': When you play Super Mario, are you 'privileged' to find a Mushroom? Or is it just... part of the game? When you play Chess, are you 'privileged' to have a Queen piece? Or is it just... part of the game? When you play an ARPG are you 'privileged' to find equipment? or is it just... part of the game? Some objects of fancy which get raised in these threads are: Kaom's Heart Shavrone's Wrappings 6 Links High level Maps Perfect stat'ed items When that is not the 'full topic' of the debate, but merely the highly visible 'tip of the iceberg'. ALL equipment is bothersome and frustrating to acquire. The game is, effectively, a challenge to find out how good your are at enduring this situation rather than simply a challenge to take a build from A to B. And this is combined with the fact that it is extremely easy to speed through content at a break-neck pace. So equipment flows at a snails pace, but levelling flows at the speed of light - and none of this is in the player's control; you are punished with over-levelling if you dally even a tiny bit and you are denied access to equipment if you don't dally. So you have a situation where everyone bottlenecks into farming at some point in Merciless, whereby some can hack it, but many, quite obviously, can't. If you want a 'real life' comparison, try this: You're in a Ferrari speeding down a German Autobahn at 150 miles an hour, then suddenly hit a 10 mile traffic jam. Are you going to run out of juice? Get bored and pull into a layby and fall asleep? Or just sit there doggedly, happy that you are at least moving at one car length every 10 minutes? Maybe if you already had some fun toys you could keep yourself amused easier, but you don't, you have a radio with a bad signal and a phone out of credit because you didn't stop to top it up. You want currency sinks for top players? Here this took me a few seconds to think up... Once defeating Piety Merciless you are met by a crazy Alchemist who tells you he can create Portals to other dimensions which are full of wonder and wealth. Horah! the player says, lemme at 'em. But wait, the Alchemist interjects, it's gonna cost ya... Level 66 Maps - 2 Fusings + 2 Chaos Level 67 Maps - 5 Fusings + 5 Chaos Level 68 Maps - 11 Fusings + 11 Chaos Level 69 Maps - 23 Fusings + 23 Chaos Level 70 Maps - 47 Fusings + 47 Chaos Level 71 Maps - 95 Fusings + 95 Chaos Level 72 Maps - 191 Fusings + 191 Chaos Level 73 Maps - 383 Fusings + 383 Chaos Level Mad Cow - 767 Fusings + 767 Chaos etc as far as you like. And actually make the later levels... interesting. Like, totally new environments. Also, this way, it doesn't matter if you have 4l or 6l, Uniques or Yellows, group or solo, you're Ferrari will just slowly, naturally, come to a halt at your desired destination, a destination entirely decided by the individual breaking point of the player without any need for interrupted play. You then have currency drop at a rate to facilitate progression rather than currency dropping at a rate to control random purchases. People will still trade the rarer orbs and maps and Uniques, but, horah, people can be allowed to find build-related equipment of a decent standard easily and upgrade it with very little hassle - horah! To which the point of my contributions to this topic are: ARPG = Equipment is... part of the game Sinks = Game-related... not equipment related. |

" utter bullshit. took me literaly under 1 minute to find a cheap 6link and its even on a high level base item. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/418584 7ex buyout. I bought my old 6l with 4ex,level 45 base, with crappy mods, dropped a few chaos in it for better mods and used it. you pay 20exalts for 6ls that are insanely modded, as in the best endgame items, i dont even understand why anyone would expect those to be cheap, for MUCH less you can buy a white or a lower base 6link and then craft it yourself. EDIT: oh and if you want a really cheap 6l, buy a tabula rasa, its like 2 exalts. If your current build relies on your chestpiece for defensive stats, and you want a 6L, and you want it cheap, you're gonna have a hard time.
You can easily make a very powerful LA ranger or something with a Tabula Rasa and shit for everything else. If your build is very gear dependent, then work up more currency before making it. " When you play mario, sure you're supposed to get some mushroom. But what about a tanooki suit? You have to work to find them. When you play chess, sure you're supposed to have all the pieces, but are you entitled to taking all of the opponent's pieces? No. You have to work toward that. When you play an ARPG, sure you're supposed to get gear, but are you supposed to find the best gear instantly? No Of course not. You have to work toward that. Like Victor said, You can find 6L's relatively cheap. And even Tabula Rasa's for near an exalt now. If it doesn't work for your build, theorycraft one.
