Them 'Fetid Pools'
I think the only problem which I have with the Fetids as for now is the search for the missing monsters. Can be really annoying sometimes. Otherwise, great area, awesome art sytle and pretty difficult.
My little tribute to Diablo 1 aka why Diablo 3 is the worst part of the series.

" I'd like to point out that one of the people who enjoys the current Fetid Pool quest is an Alpha tester notorious for wanting this game to be made much, much harder. I don't always agree with him but saying that the game has 'less chance of improving' with people like him playing is a gross misjudgement. I usually skip both Hailrake and the Fetid Pool until I've killed the Dweller anyway. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Playing 'find the needle in the haystack' is annoying, and I'm surprised that people actually like scouring the map trying to find that 1 zombie hiding behind a tree in the far corner of the map that you missed by mistake.
I don't think that adding a map-marker for the last 3 enemies or something would be 'catering to the casual omg omg ruining the game'. Most of the times, my last gathering of enemies come in 1 group and it's not an issue, but that once-in-awhile when there is that 1 straggler that you just can't seem to find, its annoying. Annoying != hard. |

Keep in mind the current reward: two orbs of regret, essentially. Assuming you don't have two orbs of regret stashed, would you rather farm for those or clear a fairly linear zone of pretty weak monsters?
Of course you could just trade for them, but you could just trade for almost all the non-skill point rewards for quests. If nothing else, I like that the Fetid Pool encourages people to be thorough. Consider it practice for Fellshrine, the clearing of which really pays off for quite a few easy levels. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Fetid isn't a required quest, personally I skip it, and if I feel like grabbing the 2 respec orbs later I come back when my toon is over-leveled and lay waste to the denizens of the pool in much quicker fashion.

" You make the mistake of assuming that the quest is 'harder' because sometimes monsters hide in the fog, and you have to run around in circles to find them. That is not hard. That is annoying. Making Fetid Pools harder would actually require something like the suggested feature from the thread I linked. For example: When there are 5-10 monsters left in the area, they all charge toward you. That actually makes the quest harder, and it removes the stupid 'run around in circles' difficulty that you are promoting. Last edited by TYRI_#6409 on Jul 29, 2012, 10:52:10 AM

Oh come on people, it's not like it takes hours and hours to navigate around the fetid pools map. I don't think it's taken me longer than 5 minutes or so at the most to track down the last 5 monsters in the fetid pools.
1- Circle around the edge of the map 2- Circle the pool in the middle of the map. If you can't find the monster by doing that, you are really doing something wrong and won't last past the first difficulty level anyways. Also, have you heard of sound cards? Try listening to the actual sounds in the game, I have tracked down more than one monster on a huge map just by listening for it. 'I see,' said the blind carpenter as he picked up his hammer and saw. .....And that's all I have to say about that.

" The 5 minutes it takes to find the last monster is probably the most boring 5 minutes of PoE I've ever played. Big deal? Not really. Worth fixing? Why the hell not? I like how you fanboys try to pass off this stupid shit as 'difficulty'... you gotta be fucking kidding. THIS ISN'T "WHERE'S WALDO". Making the last monster hard to find does NOT equal difficulty in an ARPG. |

I don't see what needs to be fixed. Nothing is broken. Some players enjoy hunting down the last few monsters. I would agree that this should be altered for mass consumption if it were required, but it's a completely optional quest. There's no reason to ruin the unique fun it offers some players to make it more consumable to those who don't like it.
Making the last 5 monsters move towards you doesn't make the quest any harder. Notifying the player of the last 5 monsters' locations doesn't bring anything fun to the quest, not to mention the necessity of lore to back up your new radar feature. Neither of these suggestions would really be any different than simply requiring a 90% clear instead of a full clear. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.
