Okay, my only real melee character is a lvl 49 Marauder with a 2-handed axe. I'm half way through Cruel Act II and running about 1.3K Armor, 1.3k Life, Ele Resist all above 65% and Heavy Strike at 1150 DPS.

My Life Regen dropped 2 points since the Patch and my total Life dropped by by less than 80. Resistances all dropped a couple of %. Overall DPS went up (some a lot) while Armor dropped a bit. Life Leach and Life on Hit seem to be on par.

My point is, Nastakanoth is right. These are only numbers. In actual play, I definitely see a big improvement on survivability. I ran a couple of areas and was surprised at the difference. Elemental Damage Skeletons are a lot less scary than they used to be. My Life Regen is able to deal with 2 Spider Viper Strikes. Regen significantly reduces the speed at which I loose Life from Viper Strike, even with slightly less Regen.

Maybe I'll see it differently when I gain another 5 or 10 levels with this Marauder, but for now, I'm rather pleased with the changes.

If we have to throw examples at our faces,get this : duelist close to 80,12k armor without a flask,max resists and creeps just beat shit out of me.It was a masochism before the patch,now with HP cuts it's just unplayable.

This is as much of a melee "buff" as it was melee gems. In other words there is no melee buff, give it few weeks and noone will play melee as they didnt before, just need some time to realise that melee cant be viable in this game ( compettive hardcore mappng atleast ). Just play RF sporker, this game is designed for that spec anyway, all uniques and spells makes it so strooonkkkk.
I haven't had a lot of time since the patch dropped to play, but my build seemed to get a significant buff. As with a lot of what I do it was a minority option experimental build. I went with full life regen and leech as my main defense, and avoided taking blood magic. I also use a lot of evasion and at level 40 I'm on my way up to grab acrobatics.

My survivability was good before, though my life was "low" by the "PoL" standards touted on the boards. Yet now my damage is up by quite a bit and that boosts my life leech. Eventually I may go dual claw, but for now Shiversting gives me mana leech and immunity to freezing. So until I need the extra life drain I'm sitting very nicely indeed.
Nothing has changed, still raped by MS ranged - big blue packs etc...what the hell was this wait for?! So much needs fixing on this game, melee wise, desyncing, the general awkward and clunky feel to combat.

I have supported this game for a long time. There has been many update's, but sod all has really changed. In fact it was probably better in the beginning lol...

I'm pretty much done with this game for now. I hope they make it as good as it can be. Of course, juvenile, elitist kid's will slam this message. But I genuinely want this game to be D2's successor. In this state, no where near yet.

Patch isn't even out for a whole day, people don't adapt to the changes and complain.
This was bound to happen.
Here is my gear:


A lost about 1000 HP, but gain about 1.2k DPS with cleave for a total of 6200 DPS with 4 frenzt charge :)

Tried the patch for a few hours last night and though my damage went up considerably im still as squishy as ever. if i dont have granite and charges up at all times ranged just eats me alive. life went from 4500/4k with auras before the patch to 2300/1900 after. armor 14k

Guess its back to path of life nodes again.

most people on theese boards are either low level players or softcore ballers, of course melee works in thoose categories, but if you wanna map as melee its impossible, first of all because you will feel bad being inferior in a team, aka weakest link, second you will be in a face of danger all the time while sparker or roa or other ranged based players can stay in the back and dont get hit. This game seemed really good, but its stuck in this beta phase for a year now and i havent seen a single thing that would improve its main problems : desync and VERY few builds that actually work in competitive end game ( by that i mean they can be as good as anyone in a party dps wise ).
I played with borderline low HP ~2.5k ( AND HC ), had like no problem doing merciless and maps ( weeell, to lv 68, I'm only lv 72, didn't find higher level maps yet ), I gained like .. 20 or 30% more DPS but I'm getting absolutly destroyed oô ...

WTB regrets.
