Why in trade do you post "offer"

You know it's not worth 2 exalt...you're very aware that it's worth around 15+ exalts. You bid 2 exalts, hoping the guy was a noob. You not only take advantage of a possible beginner that got lucky with a drop, but you also waste the time of the sellers that know what it's worth. You're like, everything that's wrong with traders.

The only way you're actually going to get a sale at that price is if the guy is a beginner...otherwise he will never sell. So, why do you try? Is it because you're really preying on beginners?

Nice after thought/edit: "The only way you're actually going to get a sale at that price is if the guy is a beginner...otherwise he will never sell. So, why do you try? Is it because you're really preying on beginners?"

You know who I'm hoping will sell to me cheap, not a beginner, a multi-boxer or someone who has dupes of everything. Do you know how many free rares I've given out to "newbies"?, quite a bit.

2) It's a good way to test who is a lowballer. I would never sell to a lowballer, even if he changes his lowball price to one that matches what I'm looking for, because lowballers are scum (the ones that know very well what the value is but always offer low).

How do you know the person knows very well the price?

I have a general idea about what are the currency exchange rations, but absolutely no idea what is the "market price" of (a huge list of) unique items. Well maybe with the exception of the two most talked uniques in the game.

Anyway, I hate haggling, and thus would prefer people would write prices (some do) alongside their offer. So I can immediately know if I'm interested or not.l

Someone ask for an offer he's gonna get offers, it's not my damm job to try and read the idiots mind.
If one doesn't want offers below some line then they should just list that.

It's usually the same names that are making these offers...the same people I see that are trying to sell Kaom's Heart and other valuable uniques/rares, and are usually trying to buy exalt at low price (so they can resell at high price).

As a general rule of thumb the person that offers first loses in the trade in anything, RL or game. If you offer someone a low price they can always ask for more at that point. You may also offer more than it is worth and they would take that or the bold people may try to ask for more even then.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

If you follow that logic, you'll stay virgin forever :)

You have obviously never worked in a business that buys and sells items for profit. Even so, it is a pretty easy concept to grasp.

I am a retail business owner. I deal with this stuff every single day for four years now. Prior to that I have dealt with open and closed tender contracts and some contacts bid (which by the way is a whole different ballpark). You sir have no clue on how business work.

What you mentioned is the latter which somewhat applies albiet rarely, due to business laws and whatnot (and yes it varies from country to country). But when is within POE context, it is irrelevant as you are offering to sell, not for bidding (see the difference?).

If you dont like lowballers, just make it a bid, set a reserve price and let your "victims" outbid each other. And honor you arrangement, I have a few item in which I have won the bid but seller backed out after it is over.

You need to know how haggling works, and you can always walk away from it...just like RL.

Edit: as a footnote, do you realize that any price you set, you are having a 100% profit margin (which you cant never get in RL) due to having zero costs?
