Why in trade do you post "offer"

Well here is my experience recently, Someone posts "Shavronnes Wrappings offer" I low ball 2 exalts. They respond with "F you". Dude hello, where is the humility/humanity. We are bartering I low balled you so give me the counter offer. I already own a Shavronnes: this is how bartering works

No, that is how scamming works. You offered 2 exalts for shavronne's because you're a scumbag. His counter offer is going to be 20 exalts probably, and then you will try to meet him half way and obviously it's a waste of time for the seller because you clearly have no intent to pay the market value.

2) It's a good way to test who is a lowballer. I would never sell to a lowballer, even if he changes his lowball price to one that matches what I'm looking for, because lowballers are scum (the ones that know very well what the value is but always offer low).

Sellers who cant even bother to but a minimum price deserve every single "lowball" they get.
"An it harm none, do what you will"
If its a high value item, it makes sense as the value is harder to determine.

Not so for low value items as its all about the turnover.

Think how much would you sell it for. People tend to say offer it they think their item would be worth a bit, especially to certain builds. The most important thing is the people dont stop haggling after that. You have to trade prices and try to meet in between. Someone has to offer first. When the guy selling does that, he puts himself at a disadvantage, since he cannot ask for more and will always have to go lower or have a deal. He does not know what the item is worth to you. Only the one wanting to buy knows that. Only sellers who know the game well can set the price including rarity of certain mods on the item , item level and general value and how useful it is. I have an advice for people wanting to buy an item - just post 75% of how much you are willing to pay tops for the item and everyone will be happy.

I dont understand why putting a price first (for the seller) is considered as putting himself at a disadvantage. Its not like you have to deal with overhead costs, staff wages, taxes and whatnot. Any price you put is at 100% profit margin. Think about that...

LOL @ this guy calling me a scumbag for offering when the seller asked for an "offer", the guy was lucky/you that I didnt offer 1 chaos.

Also Mods/Devs, please take this guys insult towards me into consideration when you eventually put his account on probation, thanks.
Lol? Act like one, get called one...

You know it's not worth 2 exalt...you're very aware that it's worth around 15+ exalts. You bid 2 exalts, hoping the guy was a noob. You not only take advantage of a possible beginner that got lucky with a drop, but you also waste the time of the sellers that know what it's worth. You're like, everything that's wrong with traders.

The only way you're actually going to get a sale at that price is if the guy is a beginner...otherwise he will never sell. So, why do you try? Is it because you're really preying on beginners?

I don't think you understand what bartering is. If you know that a Shavronnes is worth 20+ exalts, but post "offer" it means that you are trying to get more than what it's worth, which means that you could also be accused of scamming. You are hoping someone will overpay, whilst I am hoping that someone will underpay or counter offer with a fair deal.

You resorted to name calling, I didn't. You are not coming from any sort of moral high ground.
I don't know the value's of objects.
Nope. I really don't. I'm a self found player and rarely interact with the community. If I was left to guess... I'd say a Kaom's is worth 10 exalts, and a shavronnes is worth 6-7 exalts.

Am I a low-baller for not understanding your prices, or just uneducated?
Many sellers refuse to do business with me when I ask them how much they want for their gear... and their response is "offer". I give them an offer: what It is worth to me, and they don't like the offer given. Is it my fault for not knowing the prices of gear when it's so difficult to feel out this stuff? I'll never properly guess the value of gear. When I was playing Diablo 3 I was frequently surprised when my 500,000 gold amulet wound up being worth 3-4 mil. The same happens here quite often.

No, I'm hoping that there are multiple people (which I'm sure there will be, for Shavronne's) that will bid between each other. It's not the same thing as hoping that one person will overpay.
