A bit tired of the "HC master race" attitude.

Let me put this in the least confrontational way possible: The fact that you have chosen to play the game in a different manner, which rewards a more careful and defensive style of play (Hardcore) doesn't make you more skilled or experienced at the game than me.

I've had hundreds of conversations now in which the crude ad hominem argument "shut up, default player" has come up in one way or another, and the problem is, it seems to be taken seriously by many. It has gotten to the point Hardcore players dismiss Standard players feedback out of hand, as if the game had to be balanced around Hardcore mechanics, Standard being an afterthought.

The truth is, whether or not a player enjoys Hardcore or Standard has little to do with skill. I don't bother playing Hardcore because I don't see appeal in permadeath on a game that behaves so deterministically (I don't feel I lost anything unique if I die, I just feel the tedium of having to rebuild it again) and because I enjoy playing strange builds that don't necessarily aim for survivability. I have friends who play the same way and have a very deep knowledge of the game, and it saddens me to see some people on the forum look down on them. Some of these guys could play HC way better than the average HC player, it's just not their thing.

Now don't get me wrong: I appreciate the skills required to be a successful Hardcore player and I do have a great deal of respect for those who thrive in such a scenario. I just don't feel we should give the opinions of Hardcore players more credence just because they decided to build their characters around the core principle of never dying. After all, that is just one of many optimization criteria.

Sorry if this came out as a rant but I'm a bit tired of the notion that feedback from HC players is more valuable. Please discuss this in a mature way.

Pointless post, you realize someone says this daily almost? I barely see any HC master race BS, the only time I ever see anyone say something is more along the lines of default being POINTLESS and BORING. You don't have much of an incentive to spend thousands of hours on default.

Whats the difference>? I played 800hrs sc in d3 and about the same in HC, when I died in HC it was mostly to rubberbanding or disconnects, and in the end the farming was exactly the same. Just because you get off to HC dosent make you a better player, you just look up cookie cutter specs and play defensively. HC is so HC

really, only stupid people that play HC say that they are better, i have a lot of friends who play HC and they are all nice people, never heard them once go on about SC players being shittier or something...

The best way is to just ignore those people, because they are very likely bad at playing HC, stupid or have no life so just relax.

Who cares about what HC players think?

You have to realise that this kind of attitude is built around their lack of self worth (playing 'hardcore' is their way of convincing themselves that they're better or that they can amount to something). It's most obvious in the way that they treat other people. It's based on a whole boatload of insecurity, basically. In an ideal world, people would just play both modes or whatever mode they preferred, and they'd just enjoy the game.

Sc players have chance to get better than HC players due to their ability to try things out without risk. There are many facets of the Ranger that I have yet to become skilled at because I just can't risk anything over survival.
