New energy shield feedback

ITs great. You can see it in your peripheral vision at all time and its nice and bright . Good job.
While I like the look, it doesn't really convey how much SE you have compared with your maximum. All you can tell from the display is that you actually have a shield. Without the SE value being displayed, you are not really sure if you are half, quater or three qurters unless you happen to notice what was shown when you had a full shield.

I think what could be done is to have the colour of the life orb change to match how much shield you have as well as life. If you have full life and full shields, then the colour of the orb is purple (say), both the SE and the Life orb deplete seperately but if there is any overlap, the orb shows purplse, otherwise you have Red/Blue/Black (no shield or life) depending on what is higher.

Probably hard to visualise but I'll try and express as an example or 100 life max and 100 SE max.

1. With both full, 100 Life/100 SE
The entire life orb would be purple.

2. With 100 life but only 50 shield.
The bottom half of the orb is purple with the top being red. This reflects you have 50 life and 50 SE (overlapping) and another 50 Life (since it's max).

3. With only 50 Life but max SE 100
The bottom half of the orb is purple to reflect the overlapping Life/SE but the top half is blue to indicate that you have an extra 50 SE.

4. 25 Life, 50 SE
The bottom quarter of the orb is purple, the next quarter (up to 50SE) is blue with the remainder black (the colour for empty).

You can go further with this to indicate what prportion of SE you have compared to Life. For example, if you have 100 Life but only 5 SE as Max, the orb is still the combined colour but rather than being purple, it is shadded more towards Life (red) that SE (blue) to indicate that you have a much higher Life than SE max.

Hopefully than all makes sense ...

I found the SE looks was rather ingenious, it represented you had a shield and it looked as though it was shielding your health. While I haven't gotten enough to cover the entire health globe I do have a good chunk of it covered but it doesn't interfere with me knowing how much health I had.

Perhaps a suggestion after it gets past a certain number we'll say 100, instead of continuing to expand add more effects to it, perhaps add some little electrical noise to it showing its increase. and perhaps after another point it changes colors a bit? with repeating effects after each point of change?

I kinda like the idea of having the colour of the life orb change depending on ratio of energy field to life. So if you have a large volume of shield energy related to life the colour of the life orb shifts from pure red like it usually is to some other colour, or even red infused with luminescent flecks or something. As your shield goes down the gauge on the right goes down, and the colour shifts back to normal red.

The energy shield tends to recharge faster, so when it does the gauge fills up and the colour of the life orb shifts back to whatever colour is chosen.

I like it better than my glowing naked lady suggestion! haha

The shield drops lower down the orb as it's lost. I.E. it gets chopped in half from top to bottom at 50%. How can you not tell if you're at max?

I'm not a fan of the color-shift ideas, as I'm sure people with colored vision problems would find it useless.

Yeah, I'm not totally colour blind, so I'm good with red and variants, but others aren't. Maybe instead of colour variance, more like the visual effect added instead of colour.

Yeah, that's a good point WhiteBoy88! I also have noticed it drop as well. So it currently creeps accross the Life orb the higher value it gets? Does it have a limit to how far accross it goes (i.e. half way?) or can it span the entire Life Orb?

I'm not entirely sure of the left-right limit. I have around 250 shield and 200 health. My shield covers just over half of my globe. I highly doubt it would ever cover the entire globe. As it is, I can easily see my health and shield with a quick glance.

I want to say that I like the idea of the shield. However, it would be better, if these effects on the character itself so you can watch and noticed the sign. Apart from the stats. Effect and effectively. Probably difficult to change set.
I think it looks fine. The only thing i don't like is that it looks flat and it's placed on the life orb wich instead looks round. It just doesn't feel right...
