Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" Yes, indeed. If PoE is supposed to be a "gamers' game", the primary objective should be freedom of choice how to play, since gamers are as different from each other as people are in real life. Or is this news to someone? One thing this latest patch has definitely taken away is any level of control the maker of a non-ninja game had over fair item distribution. If You can't see whose the name on the item originally was, You can't really enforce any rules. Of course, You may laugh at this, but no control for such a game maker means much less freedom for him, and much more for the ninjas. In the original post, it says that the timer was introduced to level out chances in what otherwise is supposed to be a cutthroat game. Well, my suggestion is either You guys in GGG go all-out for cutthroat and give up on item naming altogether, or make the cutthroat league ASAP, with an FFA system for everybody, and leave the choices in the default league to game makers. Oh, and by the way, GGG, please pay attention to potential grab hacks. I have spoken with quite a few people in the game who also have the impression that no matter how many times they click on the items with their names, someone else picks them up. If Blizzard was able to do away with that in D2, and You can't, well, we all know what that means. Having said this, I just want to say that I am a GGG supporter. I don't regret being one because I appreciate talent and hard work and have the guts to dish out some dough if I feel they merit the support (and mind You, GGG is not an NGO or some such), but the way You're handling this item naming (and grabhacking) issue definitely needs a lot more work. |

" lol... Didn't solve any problems? The biggest problem was people where too brain dead to understand that NAMED timers meant chance for drops NOT entitled loot. People kept bitchn' up a storm about ninjas. So, removing the names pretty much fixed that. " Play how you want to play then... No ones stopping you. " If there is no choice to configure an instance regarding drops, then there is something stopping us, namely, the game's mechanics. If the game is biased towards FFA looters (or ninjas), that's not that fair towards people who just want to share (and sharing is part of any RPG as much as trading is; You should know, if You've ever played any beyond computer slash and hack ones). But, of course, You're entitled to Your own opinion. |

" The problem however persists, because people (many of them, naturally not all) want the computer to divide loot for them. Mainly because in so called gentleman parties it's just simplest way to go. Without names the old gentleman party code simply can't work any more so the "rng divides equally" can not work any more so people can't really play by any _EASY_ fair divide system. Before you answer "just everyone loot, then pool, then divide" I point back to my word 'easy' above, a full-blown DKP system is not easy and automatic. For 'gentleman rules' groups this new system is worse. For public groups it's far superior for me, much less stress. Can actually pick my nose and take a sip of cola without (as big) a risk of losing an exalted. |

What's so hard to understand:
Offering even a little bit of assigned-allocated loot makes people entitled about the drop. It doesnt matter if there are names, pink stars, naked babes or whatever on the timers. Being assigned-allocated is what makes people feel entitled about the loot. Assigned. Allocated. Entitled. And raising the assigned-allocated timers from 1.5s to 2.6s base is making people feel even more entitled for that loot. Those thinking that the problem magically disappeared in thin air or there will be no more use of the ninja terminology are simply deluding themselves. The only way to solve this problem is by offering pure ffa loot, with no assigned-allocated whatsoever. Logic 101 Last edited by mobutu#5362 on Mar 21, 2013, 11:29:16 AM

This mentality of "crying about something you want until you get it", is ruining gaming.

" Sorry, but: no. The only way to solve it is to build in an option for the instance maker to perm the loot allocation. Then the maker would decide whether he wants the loot to be up for grabs (or grab hacks), or not. He or she would have a choice. Choice = freedom, and it's all about freedom, ain't it? :) |

"Of course they want to. There are still very few genuine friends' parties in PoE. And it has been explained in the patch notes, how the names are allocated to the drops. GGG got this right, IMO, time to give instance makers the choice. |

GGG, if you're reading this thread. I want you to know your loot system is fine, and please disregard these delusional people requesting "options".
|

" Yeah, if you give them options people like this will no longer have public parties to vulture. The scum of wraeclast will be upset if you give players the option to institute fair looting rules. |
