Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

I like the system, and the improvements are awesome.

GGG listens to its fans!!! Thank you!
I don't think the system needs to change at all, but one improvement MUST be made - some indication of whose drop a particular item was on ALL items. A 5pixel colored vertical rectangle on the left of each item that matches the same color on the left of profile pictures of each player in party (unique to each player), and WHITE to indicate that the item is yours. If it is not white it was someone elses.

I say this for the obvious reasons - I cannot know if I'm taking someone else's item if I was offscreen when it dropped and I moved into view after the timer expired. In fact, it may be impossible for the group to determine who the item belongs to.

I actually enjoy the dynamics of snagging, in my opinion ffa or loot timer duration should be able to be set by the party leader up to a maximum of 20seconds even. However, I'm perfectly happy with the current system as long as some indicator like I suggested illuminates who the item originally dropped for.

Now that names have been removed this indicator is more important than ever, as previously at least one person in the party would usually be able to read whose drop it was and call it out on teamspeak.

It's not that I don't like you two... It's simply that I don't respect you.

The thread is dying? Not happening bro.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Make options for the party leader to set looting rules.

One promotes teamwork, one promotes self interests. Why would someone party, if the probability of their loot being taken exists? Public partying has no incentive, and combining these philosophies only encourages solo play and a cut throat attitude. People will only party with people they trust.

Partying is generally faster and safer than clearing areas solo; those are incentives. Personally, I see it as promoting teamwork to kill enemies and self-interest when it comes to loot.
Not sure if the devs read the patch note discussions that much, but here's a copy of my text there:

GGG has a vision of a hardcore game experience. Evidently, loot drop is an important aspect of this experience, at least according to them and most of the core players.

Ask yourselves this. Does GGG NEED to appeal to a wider playerbase by changing the loot system and possibly alienating part of their intended audience?

Start talking about business, maximizing profits, whatever, but the actual answer would be "Nope", since hardcore players are picky and don't want a game that even offers carebear alternatives (see what Trammel did to Ultima Online). This is a niche game, for a niche market. I'm pretty sure it will sustain itself off that audience, without the need to water down their concept.

Nothing will satisfy everyone, but basically satisfying people who have a problem with FFA or responding to even the current loot timer is not, and should not be a priority for GGG. Sorry.

Absolutely great post yhateful. I agree 100%.

I've said it before and I'm saying it again: Do _not_ cater to the casuals, go with your Vision GGG. You can not _ever_ satisfy both groups. Ultimately all things considered the only path that's right, is yours. Don't sacrifice what is core to cater those who really don't care about this game, who only care about their instant-gratification needs. You know we hardcore players see past that. We found your game because we looked for that kind. Meta-options aren't in your vision and that's the way it should be.
BRING back the name the name's!!!!!.
tried of getting hosed for loot .

thks.
