Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
my advice for those who hate the loot system to just stop playing until ggg takes action and give player OPTION to create loot to name parties...you keep complaining and keep playing, they wouldn't give a damn...

" where did you find these no ninja groups? I completely disagree and I'll stop short of calling you a complete liar but.. Once the name dissapears in any public game.. no one saves anything, removing the name is fine.. I can't believe you people are argueing that the screen clutter of the names on the timer added something to the game.. its an ingenious move to remove it. we were given extra time to get our items.. just use it and enjoy the much better look of the improved game. |

" If they keep playing they might realize its really not so bad. The "loot to named" idea was not horrible - I played many of the public ones, but in practice, it had several flaws. (only the host protected his loot, people getting falsely accused, timer ran out but nobody saw name etc..) Now the timer is almost double so hopefully these workarounds won’t be necessary and those flaws disappear. |

Love the new loot changes, it has cut down on the amount of bitching by a factor of a million.
Some curious side effects of the change I've noticed (which may be temporary, I'm not sure). People camp drops way more, even worthless drops that people frequently didn't bother with before. Like people camp wisdom scrolls to snag them now where previously they were commonly just left all over the ground. |

" I've noticed the same, but I'd let people adapt for a week or two before coming to a conclusion on whether it's something that will persist. Maybe the "whee it's all mine" will pass and they'll get back to ignoring crap again :) Last edited by viikinki#5521 on Mar 19, 2013, 1:28:45 PM

" It will never go away. As long as you give people access to all the loot they will do their best to take anything of value that drops. Public parties are simply vultures, nothing more. Unfortunately this patch makes it nearly impossible for friendly organized groups to properly allocate drops as well. Apparently GGG is really adamant about not wanting people to properly share loot. Good thing there is zero incentive for a competent player to party outside of helping friends. |

I really don't see how the new patch hurts private friendly groups.
How did you distribute good items that didn't have timers on them before? White items that have 6/5 sockets or links and chromatic items for example? Do the same with this system. If no one knows who had the item allocated to them, just do whatever you did with valuable white items. Complaining about not having loot allocated FOR (not to, but for) you, when you could easily allocate it as a group yourself since you're a friendly private group is about the laziest thing I've heard. Just collect everything and evenly distribute it all later. If you can't trust your friends to do this, then you aren't a friendly private group. You are no better than a public group, except that you choose who is in the group. Just... mind blowing. |

" We always played with white items as FFA and loot to name. Typically if something drops up front, the person closest could see and call out the name on it. Now he just sees it as unallocated and the ranged people need to run up to see if it is theirs... just creates more hassle. Essentially it serves no purpose, it did reduces some of the loot spam issues, particularly with boss drops, but this also has a lot to do with blue items no longer being allocated at all. Either way, I continue to play, just will never play with random players. I know for many people PoE is a solo game that requires an internet connection, it was the same for me for a LONG time in CB. I now have some IRL friends to play with, which is nice, but it would be very nice to have looting options that fit our playstyle. |

" My point wasnt referencing the name plate, it was the loot allocation name. I personally do not like FFA loot. It most likely stems from my lack of Diablo 2 experience and playing only really D3 and the torchlight games since then. Now that I realize what GGG is going for with the loot, the excitement revolving around who can spam click on good items faster, I kind of understand, but my problem comes from the fact that this is not how I personally (and my group of friends) want to play the game. I know that it was patched in to add the loot names and timers, but when I paid money so I could get stash tabs and some cool item effects, the game was what I liked. They have now changed it drastically in a way that hurts the care bear style that my friends and I liked to play. If it had stayed FFA since the beginning I would probably still play, but I definitely would not have paid for anything. |
