Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

Dear Player, Mod and Dev Team

Just a Suggestion to end up the problem of looting timer.

Having an Option to choose when create a party :
1. FFA Loot (No Timer on all items drop)
2. Timer ON for 5~10 sec or even permanently belong to the player name on the ground

I think this is a Win-Win solution for this, how do u think ???

Thanks

I have to agree. I'm hearing slippery slopes as arguments, as well as circular logic. I'd rather hear something more concrete.

Some of you say "looting system is perfect."

Some of you have said "can't have options because X." but we already explained why you can.

It's frustrating to see fallacies as arguments.

Example is right here:

maybe they should just make a new league called ultra baby core for the people who cant handle any kind challenge or difficulty in their gameing and instead of being POE it could just link you to a copy of peggle extreme.

what is said is a perfectly valid solution
you cant have options to make the game easier for people that choose to in the same league as people who do not choose to without at least some sort of penalty for choosing the easier option(example: account bound loot)
otherwise they would have an advantage and everyone would end up choosing the easier option simply because it would be more efficient to make currency that way.

so then the other option is having a separate league and the one i suggested sounds pretty solid to me.

if the hardcore players decide play with the easier option (IL) when given the chance...then i laugh HARD in their face
do you know hypocrisy ?

loot options is the best solution to everyone
the hardcore players can play they "loot pvp" and the rest of players can play the "co-op loot"...if the hardcore players decide to play only in "co-op loot" it is THEIR problem

Ok so the game developers stated that they want the game to have this "exile" feel to it. They made FFA loot to give the game that type of atmosphere. That's the atmosphere the developers want. That's the atmosphere that I find fun, since I find that fun, I play this game. If you do not find that type atmosphere fun, then, do not play the game. Problem solved.

Why would loot options in any way stop you from playing the way exactly as you do now?
Why would it hurt the game? How would it change the "exile feel and atmosphere" of FFA groups?
You can't say it's because the "exile feel and atmosphere" has to be everywhere, because we already have solo and private parties where, according to you, the "exile feel and atmosphere" doesn't exist.

It's important to us that Path of Exile has a cut-throat feel where players are not only competing against monsters, but also their fellow players.

But what Chris doesn't say is "we enforce this competition in random groups only". Therefore you receive none of that cut-throat feel if you play with friends or play solo. Also, a lot of the competition can be negated if you simply put you enforce a "ninja=kick" group.

I'm sure the developers want to enforce the feeling of competition, but we're collectively telling them that "no. some of us don't want that." "We want to be given the choice." Also, I myself somewhat enjoy how FFA plays out, but I find that sometimes I would enjoy something different.

If you are suggesting that FFA is the "only way", then I'm afraid I would have to call you closed-minded.

Several legitimate problems with free-for-all looting were raised:
- Ranged players are unable to get to the items in time.
- Items might just get scooped up by one player with substantially lower latency than the other players.

What do you guys think about this suggestion? Please don't just post "allocated sucks", or "I won't play if it's free-for-all".

you are toasted both. When you try to quote someone post his entire thought, do not take 1 line and post it as it was the WHOLE meaning...

oranged and voodoo pwned (again...)

btw Q&A is coming and i believe we will have our answers

Instanced looting (or other looting options for that matter) would have a penalty.

Example: (assuming 6 person group)

FFA drops 30 pieces of loot. I can grab all of them if I'm swift enough. (without timer)

Instanced loot every person would get 5 loot each. You lose out by not going FFA.

Other loot options: Enable a quantity decrease or just 0% quantity bonus when in a group.

I would also suggest that if a loot change is made, that group play is made more difficult than it is now (but thats an entirely different subject altogether).

Regarding how many people like FFA vrs. ninja=kick.

I play hardcore league, and every public map group I have seen has been ninja=kick group.

Every. Single. One.

Not a single FFA map group have I ever seen in the public group menu.

Not. A. Single. One.

Sure that's not any good data but it's better than no data which for example this thread can't really give us.

I have a few friends that are greedy as shit. You point is null when you say random groups only.

Stop playing the dumb card.. We all know what hes saying.. Its the same thing msyelf and others have said a million times over.

At some point, You have to sit there and think...

Are FFA defenders all really dumb, pointless, mindless, clueless trolls or are you just pointing the finger in the wrong direction.

EXACLTY, see how good it is D3....
man lol...ENFORCING a certain playstyle you just "lock" your playerbase in a certain mentality....great games ARE NOT having an enforced playstyle....

com'on are you guys have any common sense left?

the best F2P game is LoL...what enforced system does it have? none
